    Re: The GG thread

Just finished up three rounds that really came down to the end/had teamwork to the 100th+exponent.

The MEC played very well on Kashan, I thought for sure as the round ended it was in their favor. They had us pinned back to north village when I joined and didn't allow us to step foot inside the bunkers.

On Muttrah the USMC pinned us MECians all the way to south city for more than half the round, and it wasn't until we got our act together and worked as a team with communication and strong squad covering formations that we were able to push and take mosque and then push up further losing mosque but holding the western flag until the end.

On kokan it was the first time I played on the US possibly since .95 came out. It was a nail biter and I do want to apologize to PRT Blue devil, didn't mean to micromanage your mortar fortress, but thank you for allowing me to take the helm as the mortar man. It was my first time doing so and turned out to be enjoyable.

Also thanks to the many SL's who spotted and marked things on the map in the above three rounds it was extremely helpful to all.

*Also Doorgunner it was great to squad up with you, it must have been almost 6months or so that we have had the chance to be on the sane team let alone the same squad.

Kokan was a blast; very enjoyable from the U.S. perspective. We had some pretty tough caches, but with squads assaulting from multiple directions, we managed to overwhelm the defenders and take down the caches.

Highlight of that round was defending a compound from a seemingly endless wave of technicals and Taliban militants advancing from what would ultimately be an unknown cache. We were forced to withdraw after being swarmed from nearly every flank and sustained several casualties in the process. Apologies to Seagull, of whom I teamkilled during the chaos and confusion.

I was with a Taliban squad that fought like hell on Kokan to try and keep the fight away from the caches via various hideouts until we would finally get overrun. It seemed like all we could do was stall your advance. However, I thought we fought a little bit harder than the final score would suggest, but them's the breaks.

If all else fails, make it fun for you

I was in the frog. Someone put a tank spotted mark on the map about 1.5 grids west of you. I had no laze or accurate position. I dove on the mark on the map, didn't see anything, then I noticed a tank to my left, I banked hard and was able to confirm it was an abrams during the turn (we had a t-90 and bmp within a grid of you), fired my cannon and about two unguided rockets. I pulled up after the run and switched to my rear camera. I was surprised to see you explode because I didn't think I hit you that hard.

    Re: The GG thread

Kokan tonight was a lot of fun. I didn't know if the infantry layer was going to be doable for the US, but it turned out to be great. The highlight for that round for me was assaulting that first cache. Mortars finally became active and started peppering the compound, we issue them to stop as Squad 4 barrels down the river in their boat while we assault it in our humvee. We pull up right next to house and I throw a rope over and jump up and get in a close building. As soon as I get off the rope our humvee explodes from an RKG. No one dies, but the rest of my squad gets pinned down behind me. The insurgents haven't noticed that I was already in the compound now. Silly takes most the fire and then I pop up and draw a crucial enemys fire away from Silly while Silly notices the opportunity and takes him down. I then run downstairs to the ground and kill the remaining insurgents still trying to kill Silly one the roof next to the rope. Area's clear and we take the cache down after revives. Once that happens, we hop out through the same rope and have to start crawling through the fields back to main because there is enemy fire from both sides and our humvee was gone now. We all made it back alive. It was a fun cache.

    Re: The GG thread

It was a stupid cache, the very placement of it gave the Taliban little option for firebases and defensive positions. Although some thought must be given to the realistic placement of the caches, gameplay should be first and foremost.

Sure, we could have covered the open expanse of field with an SPG but either way the cache was going to get taken out. I hate using those rush up, quickly dismount and bumrush the cache tactics, although they work its a shame that the cache couldn't be taken out any other way.

    Re: The GG thread

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a "bumrush."

We had mortars soften up the position while a squad or two covered our rapid advance with .50 cal and small arms fire. They continued to suppress until we were able to successfully make it to the compound. By the time we extracted, enemy mortars were called on their position and they were forced to retreat to safety.

    Re: The GG thread

Watched the whole thing, we had 2 AK74's, a PKM, G3 and 303 trying to suppress, the boat was blatantly beached and unrecoverable. When people rush assets in with major disregard for their own lives, thats a bumrush. Rudd and I did the same thing on Ramiel.

There was hardly anyone defending it anyway, noone really cared. Kokan tends to suffer from the same roaming Taliban nature of Archer, wide expanses with areas where they can create their own fun.

Thanks for ruining my story by calling my objective stupid, dtacs. I appreciate it.

You say you couldn't defend it, but just by showing me the layout of your team I can see you didn't know how to defend it. You freely let the US team take the eastern side of the river. You hardly had enough insurgents in the cache compound to defend against it. You choose to use the taliban as far range support instead of close range combat. There were defensive and FOB locations ALL over that area, but your team refused to take notice of them.

But you're right. It's a stupid cache that cannot be defended at all. Map makers fault for favoring the US no matter who the players on the other side are or how well they are working together.

    Re: The GG thread

To be fair, my squad was to the southeast of the cache in that pic (I think) and we fought with everything we had to keep pushing north along the right flank of the cache but ran into some pretty heavy resistance to the north. I took out 3 or 4 guys by myself in that compound just to the north of that easterly squad.

I don't know what everybody else was doing, but my squad was having a good time and a good fight. We just lost is all. GGz.

Caches are meant to go down. A perfect insurgency is one that outlasts...

Idk, I didn't play that round but when I get caches like those I let them fall over losing a better placed unknown/known. Good thing was that that was at the beginning of the match.

I'm fairly certain it was one of your armor buddies that finished us off. I heard him roll up to our corpses after the kill But you deserved the kills if you got the stat credit, it was a good attack run especially without a laze for guidance and with friendlies nearby. Still, almost had you with that 50....

I'm not slapping a stupid tag on your objective and apologize if thats what you drew from my post, but down to basics it was a rush. I saw the .50 cal support from 2 different Humvees, both of which we fired at and yes, you took the cache because the Taliban won't properly defending it. However, its still a cache placement which is illogical for the Taliban, gameplay wise. Whilst on Kokan the smartest caches would be placed deep within the heart of compounds, that wouldn't make many possible positions and I can understand having areas where the US would be easily able to assault, but the lack of hideout options due to the 200m range meant that we had to be spaced relatively far apart from the compound itself.

As for out defense, noone really cares much on Insurgency. We were working as a squad, but you can never rely on smurfs.

Its vexing as to why you would want to debate my views on cache placements, maybe a bad day at work or something. Regardless, I digress.

Enjoyed Muttrah 16 alot today. Barely pulled a victory as Mec out of our asses. Dtact showed up and I believe Zegel was there too, they were enough to really push us into docks and let us keep it. Hard fought 40 something - 0 due to cap out.

Man I hate pubies at times.
