Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
The rules video is so awesome; it got me so pumped up that I watched it twice! For me, this is a huge incentive to play on password nights, which I haven't been doing lately. Good job to Ferris and the Admins, excellent idea and excellent execution.

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
I'd like a PW certified use group -- get automatic PM's after passing the PW night test questionare.
The video is a good idea if we're introducing a major rule change, but its a bit annoying for the regulars.
Im not saying its not effective -- its very good for introducing the pubbies to proper game play -- but would it be so hard to have a PM list for the 'certified' pw night peoples?|TG|Switch

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
switch...did you watch the video? how is it annoying? honestly........can you give me 3 concrete reason's why it is annoying for you, because i am a regular and i dont find it annoying.
Would it be so hard to stop whining? I might be out of line but first you want people to tell you on TS, now you want the admins to email hundreds of people the password every thursday and sunday (they do have jobs and lives outside TG). What is so hard with clicking a link and watching a flash video?
Next people are going to want the admins to call each individual person, then come to their house and log them into PR and enter in the password for them.Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
What is the 'certification' process?
Who manages the certification process?
Who manages the distribution list?
Who sends out the PMs?
This is the problem with any type of verification - someone has to do the leg work. Please remember that there are over 20,000 registered users at TacticalGamer.com. Sure, not all of them play PR, but you would have to go through that process with everyone, right? You'd also have to have someone dedicated to managing it on password night.
It has been suggested before that we only let registered TacticalGamer.com players join the server and kick those that aren't on password nights. That's a great idea, but it boils down to people spending all of password night basically reviewing a list against the list of players on the server and kicking those that don't belong. They could also just join right back up again. I'm pretty sure we could write a script that would do it, but then we need to put the script in place on pw nights and take it off when it is done. Major, major hassle.
If anyone would like to volunteer to spend all day on pw night managing this process, pm one of the admins. BTW - you cannot miss a day - RL doesn't matter in this case. The entire TG PR population is depending on you to be there for them or there is no password night!
Again, it's 60 seconds. It's a small price to play for higher quality gaming experience.

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
For me I think the new setup did it's job. For the two rounds I played I was in two of the best squads I've been in on PW nite in awhile. From top to bottom everyone a team player. I wish I had screen shots of the two squads I was in so I could thank each one for two great rounds. I do know Turkish and Pancho were my squad leaders and they did excellent work. Well done guys lets hope all PW nites can be that fun.

It's good to hear from the community that the PW nights are improving... But why not tell everyone just how much they are in fact improving by posting an AAR.. Just like this guy did!

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
Create a 'PR PW NIGHT' account like the 'Ribbons' account.
Users who submit a passing test (which could be an easy to implement online form) can be added to the group maintained by the 'PR PW NIGHT' accountWho manages the distribution list?
PR PW NIGHT sends it out to everyone in the groupWho sends out the PMs?
No... only the people who chose to submit the test/form would get in on it and the process could be nearly automated.20,000 registered users ... you would have to go through that process with everyone, right?
Abosoutely true -- the video is great for informing brand new players about the expected conduct. People who have been here for over a year are pretty well informed, though, and usually do a very good job at upholding our standards and teaching others.Again, it's 60 seconds. Despite what one might expect after reading the reactions and neg rep I recieved after my comment, I wasn't whining incessantly or even denying the utility of the video. I was just pointing out that for regular players its a nusance, even if only for 60 seconds, that could be avoided by a relatively easy to implement PR certified system.|TG|Switch

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
60 seconds per player everytime there is a new password vs. (we will guestimate here) 4 hours a week for one person.
You tell me which one sounds better. Are you really that adamant about saving one minute of your time and loading all of the burden onto one person?

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
Maybe Switch is volunteering to create and maintain this new system he is proposing? Lol.
The vid is a great idea and a small price to pay. This idea could be used in other games on TG servers that have rule violation issues.

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
The Ribbons account is NOT AUTOMATED. It is an account that an actual person has to log on to in order for the ribbons to be posted. The same would apply to your idea.
Again, who is going to be responsible for deciding who gets in and whatnot? Who manages the list and checks it against people who pass the test but get banned anyway?Users who submit a passing test (which could be an easy to implement online form) can be added to the group maintained by the 'PR PW NIGHT' account
Again, not automated. Someone will actually have to compose a PM to everyone on the list and send it to them, not to mention the other organizational and management hassles.PR PW NIGHT sends it out to everyone in the group
Again, who verifies the list and checks it against the banlist on a regular basis to make sure that people cant get in just because they pass the test?No... only the people who chose to submit the test/form would get in on it and the process could be nearly automated.
I think I've shown where your simple system becomes too complex. Simply put, you're asking for someone to program this, set this up, and spend their time managing it (that is if it's even possible to set up some kind of automated system that you're proposing, not to mention requisitioning space from the boss, coming up with a test, and making ti all work with each other). The video is simpler. It involves 10 seconds of work on my part...literally. I change the password and upload the video. Voila. Problem solved.Abosoutely true -- the video is great for informing brand new players about the expected conduct. People who have been here for over a year are pretty well informed, though, and usually do a very good job at upholding our standards and teaching others.

The bottom line is that I dont really care if it inconveniences you. This was designed to benefit the players en-masse and the admin staff by improving the quality of gameplay and giving the admins a greater range of authority on password nights because the video REQUIRES everyone to read the rules, so theres no longer any excuse for misbehaving. The goal wasnt to streamline the joining process to facilitate the individual's need to save 60 seconds.
I've been here for well over 3 years (my join date is false, I had a different forum name LONG before Ferris Bueller was invented) and I have 0 problem watching a 60 second video so that I can play with my buddies on the server. Perhaps what you need isnt a quick fix, but some practice in developing patience.

Re: Project Reality Password Nights Are Here!
Look - let's not let this get carried away here. Good idea on the test and certification, but the reality of it is it is a maintenance nightmare. No one in their right mind would want to maintain the list, make sure that every player currently on the server on password nights is actually certified (what is to stop player A from giving player B the password - it happens already anyway).
The video stays. Case closed.
