Re: "Fear" of Civilians
I'm pretty excited about the civie kit. I keep imagining using them for scouts for a forward fireteam. This could be great fun.
I have complete confidence in the PR team and know that they won't add anything to "break" this mod. As long as the models for the civie kits don't run around like the scarecrows with their arms in the air (like a player that lost his kit) then all will be well.Last edited by Wimpinator; 04-12-2007 at 11:18 AM. I'll be out all day harvesting the poppy fields in Helmand, then sleeping it off in the buildings on Whiskey flag

The insurgents should really have the same skins as civilians. That is the whole point of it no? That any of them can whip out a weapon at any time?
You could also make women and children though. They aren't usually insurgents, although I have heard of female suicide bombers. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: "Fear" of Civilians
Seems like that's exactly what you'd want to happen if the purpose of adding civs is to add more to realism.
Also, as I thought more about my suggestion, perhaps there should be a requested insurgent "suicide civ" kit that's assigned through the QM. It can be limited to perhaps 2-4. This would prevent a bunch of insurgents running around in that particular kit just because it's skinned like a civ. It'd also keep the gameplay balanced.

Re: "Fear" of Civilians
for v0.6, it was our goal to simply 'introduce' a civilian kit. we need largescale game play testing (in other words, people to try to cheat/misuse the kit). Once that gets out of the way, we will think more about civilians.
My idea for civilians (if v0.6 goes good) is to drastically change the way an insurgent map plays, so that its basically its own game mode (not related to AAS). It was NEVER the intention of the dev team to have insurgents on AAS maps, it just kind of fell that way cause of time restraints and a series of failures with other game modes. Now that we are on a great succesful turnover of ideas, introducing the civilian kit is just a stepping stone to a much broader and drastically different way to model an insurgency in a video game.
So yes, its a good idea to make a kit that looks like a civilian, or to make a civilian look like the rest of the insurgents, however it takes ALOT of time and effort to do these things, so we want to be sure its working first and we want to see how the general population will handle a kit that has no main weapon.

Re: "Fear" of Civilians
Well thanks for keeping us updated on that, a very interesting direction you are all going there. I wonder if it will lead to two separate mods in the end.
