Re: PR players with real life military experience / training?
Was 11th Infantry Royal Thai Army since 18 (now 23). Fought with muslim rebel in south 3 provinces of Thailand since enlist. It was urban war and it's not a full scale war...we do not have any fire support, armor or any thing at all. Car bomb are every where and they did ambush a lot. The combat zone always full of civilian. RP game is the most not REAL COMBAT LIFE AT ALL. If anyone was a platoon leader...do you think your men will follow your order to capture the fortify objective without pre-bombard? In my exp...if we do not have heavy fire support...m203 or even nade...are handy before storming... Those rebel always open the combat with car bomb or RPG...so LAT is good against infatry!!! When infantry move in...HMG always keep their heads down. Ever seen that in RP? RP is a toy PERIOD.

Kings Own (KOCR) reservist in Calgary way back when FN's were the talk of the town (now using C7's).
Signal , infantry. Qualified for Ottawa Shoot and might have gone on to Bisley if wind, light and nerves were all in sync
.
No practical application to playing PRM other than to instinctively watch over (cover) those ahead of me and keep an eye on the flanks and rear.I'm not in my second childhood , I simply never outgrew my first

situational awareness, cover, formations, but you need everyone to be on the same page before it helps in game....

U.S. Army Infantry
Served during the Cold War before they started putting all these gadgets on your rifle. Iron sights are personal.
As far as the game, just fire and maneuver tactics and the overwhelming desire to destroy the enemy, his family, his children, his religious institutions, his culture, his country.
You know, just the basics.

5 years as a USMC CH-53E Crew Chief / Doorgunner / Combat Marksmanship Instructor / Marksmanship Coach. 00-06. Overseas: Chasing those folks around, liked working with the Brit's and Kiwi's, great to hear you guys on the game. Can't really say what we had to do over there, just supporting those who deliver death for a living and getting a little on the in and out of the zone. Cheers.

Re: PR players with real life military experience / training?
Got distracted and forgot the rest of the question. It is cool to fly the Helo's, although the physics are rather skewed. The blackhawks fly amazingly quick on here and they manage to do 6 G turns on a dime. I am not a programmer but I wish the distance scale was a little more, we can see for miles in the doorway of the helo's. I would say using terrain to your advantage is in need here too. Putting boots on the ground without zone brief is a little scary here too, but hey you have to be a little touched by the wizard to do this job anyways. It's fun to do and the best reward is at the end of a mission when you get to see a live mans smile, they always know the choppers are coming.

Re: PR players with real life military experience / training?
Would any of are ex and currently seving members be interested/prepared to post about their experiences? I would be fascinated to hear about anyones thoughts on joint ops they had participated in, working with other countries forces. I would be particularly interested in American experiences of working with us Brits and of course the Australians and Kiwis.
Just a thought.

Re: PR players with real life military experience / training?
Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Infantry from 2001 until now. Served with 2-22 INF, 10th Mountain at Ft. Drum, and 1-8 INF, 4th Infantry at Ft. Carson. Been deployed twice (Afghanistan with the 10th, Iraq with the 4th) and I'll be jumping onto the merry-go-round one last time before getting out; we'll be deploying again soon.
In relation to Wickens' post: the only operation I participated in that involved joint operations between different national armies would be this one deal we participating in during my tour in Afghanistan. Our leg unit was tasked with a 45 mile movement up a deep, narrow valley towards blocking positions set up in the north (this occurred in the Hindu Kush mountain range... beautiful terrain). The blocking elements to the north were comprised of various special operations units: US Special Forces, SEALs, and I believe some dudes from Australia's SASR.
Of course, we never saw any of them, so I'm not sure if that counts. The only other experiences I've had with multinational troops would be flirting with Australian, Romanian, and Georgian female soldiers. :P
In terms of in-game application of real world knowledge: over-arching know-how of tactical maneuvers help (battle drills and what-not), but it's certainly no requirement, nor does it give me an "edge". The lack of penalty of permanent death tends to decrease the effectiveness of certain tactical solutions. After all... why bother setting up a support-by-fire position when the enemy is perfectly willing to step out into the suppressive fire to get a headshot on you?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.

Re: PR players with real life military experience / training?
3 years ago in southern Thailand. A group of muslim seperatist attacking one of a local police guard post, after a several small arms fire (mostly AK47 and some stolen M16, MK33 and homade granades), armed polices forces sucessful push them back to the local Mosque named "Kruzae'". At this point special forces with APC was called in and surrounded the mosque...expected them to surrender but they fired from the urban area nearby the mosque...which forces the APC to open fire. After clearing the building, my unit has arrived...several troops were injured and my job was to take care of them...it was quiet at the moment but after I reached the APC...they start fired at us. So...normally...my job was to treats wounded in a secure area but the situation make the whole unit pined down on the road side (with an APC with me and another dead police behind it plus another wounded...). We do not have any fire support except the APC's MG because the special forces wasn't expect a combat so LAV-100 didn't have any 20mm round that day. We have to rely on it's 7.62 mm which is ok... After a while ... the truck with RPG was arrived then the whole units start shooting RPGs on them. The fight last 7 hours...I was in the last 5 hours (30 mins hiding behind APC :P). We got 5 dead, several wounded. The rebel: 32 dead in the Mosque and another 75 outside. Personally I think they should increase the blur effect when you getting fire on...it's a lot more intense in real life. And server should permit spaming LAT. Really.
