Re: The use of Racial names!
Who takes offense at the word yankee? I certainly don't. The first definition at dictionary.com says "a native or inhabitant of the United States." Call me yankee all you want. I never hear anyone use that term here in the states.

Re: The use of Racial names!
wow now that is being oversensative IMO.... its not a mockery its the way things will go... you are offended by chinamen, i am offended by limey (not really but i should be lol), americans are offended by rednecks or yanks, etc etc... its all harmless fun they are not mocking you but the GAME characters.

Re: The use of Racial names!
It's clear that a member of the TG community has been offended by statements made in game. Regardless of whether they're slurs against characters or people...they're still slurs. You might not agree with one particular word being a slur, someone else might consider it a slur. Who's right? Who knows. What we do know is that people do get offended...one member of the community so much that he's willing to leave over it. Therefore this behavior should stop.
The Rules of Conduct are clear. How can this even be a debate?

Re: The use of Racial names!
your aggressive tone in replying to my question has offended me im leaving... thats why, because while im all for setting boundaries, if the boundaries are set so damned tight for fear of offending people its ridiculous. the debate isnt whether people are offended in fact it isnt even a debate, its a plea that people stop taking meaningless crap so personally. everyone can be offended by any number of things... and if DirtBoy is that insulted by OTHER MEMBERS giving their objections, in the form of "look where censorship goes" then im sorry but i dont see a clear cut argument such as yourself.
thats all im going to say on the matter it really isnt worth the hassle.

How are setting boundaries to prevent racial slurs so damned tight?

Re: The use of Racial names!
Whilst some people may consider some things offensive that others don't, it should be fairly obvious that racist expressions are offensive in general, there is no other context the words in question can be taken, even jokingly, the words themselves are racial slurs, unlike say yank or limey, which have very little in the way of generally offensive history, they are mostly slang. (and whilst limey was deorgatory, it was jokingly so)
Like I said before, it should be simple common sense not to say things like slanty eyes, there is no defence in claiming you didn't think anyone would find it offensive and trying to draw parallels with censorship and free speech is pretty laughable."It's nothing to do with Stalker, really"

Re: The use of Racial names!
I am extremely disappointed to see members of this community make light of a serious topic. I expected better.

Re: The use of Racial names!
I was just trying to lighten up a thread that has gotten a little too heated and off topic. I don't condone any such vulgarity in any way, and would expect just as much respect from any players wearing TG tags.

Re: The use of Racial names!
Hey, I was going to add some levity to an unnecessarily serious conversation. In the unposted post I succeeded in making fun of Americans, Brits, Africans, African-Americans, Chinese, Indians, Russians, Irishmen, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and..... hmmm some other major group. All using fun stereotypes.
In the end I decided that your concern was more important since making light of an insult is what makes them so prevalent. You have a valid point, though some people may not even know certain terms are derogatory (I didn't know Chinaman was anything different than calling someone an Irishman). So there. If you're going to then chide me on being insensitive then I'm going to be inclined to say you're getting too sensitive considering you're interacting with many strangers, in addition to the established TG community.
I agree with your sentiment and so be happy knowing you just increased the server boot rate by about 300 %. People will behave properly or not participate.
As far as the statement about the world view that its ok to hate -- I'm not saying that it is. I'm just saying that like all wars, governments actively degrade the enemy so that people are less inclined to protest the war. Currently the 'war on terror' is the war on 'Muslim extremism' and before we got all PC about it most countries immediately started criticizing the middle east culture and life style. anywho thats for a different post.|TG|Switch

Re: The use of Racial names!
Dudeman, chinaman is an offensive term in American English due to the history of the term in America. You're from the UK, and so you may not be aware of the connotations of the term in American culture. You should be aware that different cultures some times have different racial slurs, even if they're speaking more or less the same language. Heck, Americans in Oklahoma call use the word 'coke' to refer to any soda, whether it's coca-cola, pepsi, mountain dew, minuate maid orange, or Fanta grape. New Yorkers use the word 'coke' for just cola beverages. Same word, but different connotations because the culture is slightly different in Oklahoma than in NY. Many racial slurs are are like this too. Their connotations can vary by region and culture.
I would have thought this was common knowledge. What's wrong with being more considerate? Not everyone who plays the game is from the UK. If you didn't know either of those before, now you do. Please be more considerate?
