Re: Loading Times Test
Interesting stuff, I sometimes have nice loading times, or slaughtering slow ones. I dont shut off many apps though. I'd say I usually get in anywhere from 40seconds- 10 Seconds before the round starts. Sometimes I get in late.

Re: Loading Times Test
I have about 62 apps running when I start. I run a 2 gig system P4. The card is a nvidia 7800 GS and all goes well. I think connection issues are the culprit, but hey, I dont know much. And I have a nice buzz.
Sometimes I rip, other times I RIP.

Re: Loading Times Test
I think he meant processes, not apps. Windows usually runs anywhere from 20 to 30 depending on the version and other things you have it doing. Each program on top of that can be running anywhere from 1 to 10 processes of its own. ATI generally runs at least 2 for catalyst, Norton Anti-Virus runs between 2 and 5. On my quad core, I have as many as 75-80 processes running while im playing games that include things like teamspeak, xfire, AIM, firewall, antivirus, mouse/keyboard software, etc. Then again, its a quad core so I can run a lot and not sweat it too much. 65 isnt too much of a load for a dual core to run, but if youre running something lesser, i'd recommend cutting it down to at least 40 before you start your gaming. Lower system load, lower use of page file.

Re: Loading Times Test
ATI 's latest catalyst driver and control panel ran 5 processes on my pc (3 times CLI.exe, twice ati2evxx.exe). Norton Antivirus ran about 10... that 's why I removed it. Cyberlink PowerDVD had 3 services running and I barely use it.
Type 'msconfig' in your run and check the services tab, 99% of the services not belonging to Micisoft can be disabled.
I was able to cut down from 50 to 24 and if it wasn't for my G15 apps I would have less than 20.

Re: Loading Times Test
With me having an older processor I do shutdown as much as I can before starting up BF2. As of lately(zince .6) I recieve a lot more lag than usual, it might be possible that it is my connection with only 256Kb upload speed and 6Mb download speed. My ISP has been doing a lot of testing or whatever cause they are getting ready to offer 768Kb up and 12Mb down. Will love having that!! Still I think it is mainly just PR .6 cause it sure seems a lot of other people also have lag as well with systems a lot better than I have.
I stopped using Norton a long time ago cause of how slow it caused my machine to run, I don't run ATI Catalyst software I just install the driver, never did see any real benefit of installing Catalyst, just something else that would be running and slow me down that much more. I have 28 total processes running when I start up my computer, before playing and shutting down useless processes I have 21.

Re: Loading Times Test
I'm pretty darn satisfied with my loading times. Unfortunately I can't test right now because my only CD drive isn't currently working (means no bf2 until I get a new one in case anyone was wondering why I haven't been on lately). But when loading up I would routinely be around a minute. System specs are amd athlon 3800+, 1gb ddr400, x1600pro, two WD 7200 drives.

Re: Loading Times Test
Download yourself a BF2 DVD-image and mount it with Daemon Tools. I was forced to disconnect one of my DVD drives when I bought an X1950 Pro (which needs 2 molex connectors for power
). Having only one drive is annoying when you play games, don't like changing disks all the time...

Re: Loading Times Test
2048 MB (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)
DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 2133 MHz (8 x 267)
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (512 MB)
320gb Barracuda
1280x1024
Every setting maxed out, full anti aliasing and antistropic filtering.
Not sure what my load times are, but on maps that dont have such a long (read fair) delay at start of map, I'm quite often capping the 1st flag by the time the 1st couple of people have spawned.

Re: Loading Times Test
To answer the OP - 25 seconds.
Some people should be much faster then that I think. Thats a single IDE drive, Samsung 160gig, Conroe CPU and 2 gig @ 266mhz
You guys arent mentioning the hard drive which is biggest factor
Gfx isnt relevant particularly imo but I have 1800xl 256 pci-e
All settings are high, resolution is 1280x960
Audio is software, high, eax
I messed up when to record the time at first so I did load the map previously ie. it was cached
