Yeah,I'm sure they did. One of the spotters, like Warehouse said, was yelling "RIGHT RIGHT". They massacred their target...probally a few technicals.

    Re: IR spotlight?

After looking at it the first time i was wondering if it really was a chopper that shot them up, yet it must have been for sure, a spectre gunship does not fly so low. If only we had a spectre in PR, that whould be sweet

Sounded, imo, a bit like a A-10 with the mini and a rocket top off...that was my first instinct...

I saw the object move across the top of the screen as well but the A-10 has twin turbo fans not jet engines so no burners there.

You are spot on Sceadu. My bad with the terminology. As I said, I was a few beers into the night. But that is a couple of A10's. The sound is the giveaway.

If you look closely in the background, you can see a helo circling the action...at aproximatly 33 seconds into the film, and once again at about 52 seconds. I believe its a Black Hawk,of what variation...I have no clue. Maybe its being used as an observation chopper? It might even be the gunship firing on the target, but I can't be sure..

    Talking Re: IR spotlight?

Hey I know this is probably a stupid question but is there any chance the actual fire came from a Spectre Gunship, yeah I know the angle is low and on the video you can see helos moving in the background. Its just that its an awful lot of munitions on target. When I watched the video it wasn't very clear but to be fair and I may have had more than the requisite number of beers.

I don't think so. If it was a Spectre it would orbit the target, whereas the helicopter made a beeline right for it and veered off when the attack was complete. Plus, you don't see any 155 shells being fired. If you did, believe me, you'd know about it.

WRT an A-10 - do they have 7.62s as well as the cannon? Didn't know that.

Warehouse. Thats more than likely a pair of 60's outfitted or apache / cobra. It is not an A-10 though, I have been in theater with all of these platforms and I fly on a CH-53E for the Marines. 160th SOAR has some pretty hot systems flying around, I once flew into an area and all hell broke loose, it was them lighting up an area at about 3:00z in the morning, we had no info on the OP, it was scary because they were lasering my helo as we flew through and between Chinooks and Hawks going crazy. They are by far great pilots and aircrew, but they have some weird rules about when and where they will fly. Marines fly anywhere at anytime, we do not care. Cheers.

Wish I could get all those neat features on my R/C A-10. No small furry woodland animal would be safe.

Thought I would post up these videos as they show the apache nicely.

In the second video they show how the apache holds off and engages targets upto 7000m away while scout helicopters advance further into the battlefield

This one is just a nuts fly past with the heli flying 5 feet off the ground right past some troops

If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have obviously failed to plan properly.
