    IR spotlight?

Can any of you ex-military guys tell me more about this video?

    http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/...Chain_Gun.html

I'm wondering if that is a blackhawk circling above firing a minigun down.
I want to know what the loud explosion is from coming from the helo after if sprays a final burst of rounds onto the targets. It looks like some sort of rocket, and it is definitely coming from the helo.

...if you listen very closely when the second IR spotlight comes up, you can hear someone shouting at the guy controlling the light..."right...RIIIIGHT!!!" Seems he was pointing the light too far to the left and nearly missed the incoming technical!

It could be a DAP blackhawk, I guess. But they're only operated by the 160th, so...

I don't know of any other blackhawks with miniguns AND rockets. Of course, this is assuming it's definitely a blackhawk.

But yeah, you can clearly see two rockets being fired.

Could it be an Apache? The second "explosions" sound like a 50 cal. The Header states "Chain gun" and that is what the Apache uses.

An apache would make more sense

If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have obviously failed to plan properly.

I happened to see an engagement identical to that in Mosul a little later in 05. It makes me wonder if that video has an accurate date...but anyway...

That is most definitely a DAP 60...flown by 160th pilots of the U.S. Army. You hear the chain guns at first and watch them impact...then you hear the thud thud thud of a larger caliber (i couldn't exactly tell you what they were using but it was def. single barrel large caliber.) Followed up by a salvo or 2 of rockets. Needless to say, anybody within 200ft of that point was swiss cheese.

First of all they'd have to fix the TERRIBLE flight model of the 60 so it flew like the little bird....except make it a little heavier. MEANING: accel/decel slower and not as fast of a vertical climb. And I've said this 1000 times, even on the PR dev's forums....when you drop all collective (pitch from blades) you fall like a safe. You do not gently float down like a feather.

seems more like an apache, then a blackhawk with the minigun. apaches dont shoot as fast as the shower you see towards the end...

It could be a combined arms exercise, using more then just one blackhawk/apache.
