If it did that everyone joining it would have to switch to a previous version too I think. I dunno about PB though, I only know what it's SUPPOSE to do but fails at it most of the time.

Why not simply disable PB on the server??

It's more or less useless anyway for the resources it sucks up vs the results.

If they downgrade the PB version the server runs then our client would still work regardless, it just brings up a warning, version out of date, blah

I would then personally revert to the previous version and save myself 100 meg of memory

same here. here's how mine works:
as soon as i click to join the server from the browser, i get a connection problem, and have to rejoin but it works fine.
Then EVERYTIME I get 3 "there is a problem with your connection" messages, twice they go away, third time I get booted. Unplayable. Boo.

I've been having problems the past few days too; connection to server (and map rotation disc's) as well as in-game graphics lag.

For the lazy people or confused people that don't know how to manually update punkbuster, here is a link to the PBSETUP utility directly from evenbalance's website.

I think everyone can benefit from running this application

Also if you are playing and you get the Connection Problem message on screen hit ESC and wait a few secs and hit ESC again, and it well make it go away, you well be took out of the game for a few secs but you well not get kicked out of the server.

... That only hides it, it doesn't prevent you from getting kicked, it's just chance that you didn't timeout.

I'm pretty sure it's Punkbuster. I just did a fresh install of XP and BF2 yesterday. Had a hell of a fight with PB and Zonealarm. Like Scud mentioned. "PnkBstrB" is causing all the issues right now. They did some kind of update and as usual like everybody else didn't test it enough. Same Sh*t different pile. Doesn't matter if it was Desert Combat or BF2 and now PR, they just can't get it right. Every update is screwed one way or the other.
Pi**n me OFF.
Sorry guy's, just had to get that of. I'm not in my 20's anymore and don't have the time to play all day and night. If I find some time I would like to enjoy the game and not getting even more PO'd from work and/or RL !!!

Good to hear it 's not just me.

It started with PnkbstrA and now there 's a PnkbstrB? wonder where it will end. First time I noticed the process PnkbstrA I killed it only to find out it was required for BF2. Then this friday I found out there was a second one (PnkbstrB) which somehow got damaged after downgrading my ATI drivers... I was unable to connect to TG and got a message that the handshake with the process failed so I alt+tab 'ed and found out it wasn't running. It was missing in my services list and damaged in the registry but it still existed under c:\windows\system32. After starting it manually I was able to connect again.

Seriously, I hate software installing services without my approval. Especially if they suck up memory and stop my games from working properly.

Yep I am also getting connection every so often, no matter what server I join. But after I've played for like half an hour, the connection errors seem to just fade out.

Actually you gave Evenbalance (Punkbuster) the right to install things like that without you even noticing. It's called the terms and agreements buddy. And we all agreed to them.

True... but who ever reads those

As far as I know, PB always worked without local services so I wonder why they are needed now?
