Great games tonight. My highlight was on the map where the allies are defending the Courtyard, Backyard, Tower, and Mortar location. I was defending the mortar position and 3 Axis came charging over the hill. I wasn't behind any cover and was actually moving toward the downward hillside. I took out all three of them with my bolt action rifle. Talk about 'aiming in the clutch'.

Yes, great games tonight, indeed. For the first time, I REALLY enjoyed Konigsplatz. All it took was a server full of Tactical Gamers.

I'm still learning the other maps that weren't in the beta. Teamwork on those is improving each night, and that's good. It was also good to see a lot of new TG faces on tonight. Hopefully folks are enjoying the game as they get more comfortable with it.

Around 2015 or so Konigsplatz loaded and since no one else took the position I decided to take up commander on the Soviet side. Despite our best attempts we could not break the German lines past Konigsplatz West. Both rounds we were met with fierce resistance that even continuous artillery barages could not shake. Though we lost both rounds it was certainly not because of a lack of skill or heart. I noticed the second ended and both sides were under 20% reinforcements left with the Soviets even slightly ahead in that category. A bit more direction at the beginning would certainly have helped and I take full responsability for the outcome. I would like to thank NC-Man in particular for his help in directing the team and speaking up when things weren't going well.

I left after the first round of Kaucusus. Great games to everyone playing tonight the teamwork is certainly improving with each round keep it up.

I was on the Axis side. You Soviets put up one HECK of a fight. That map was a total slugfest (which makes sense historically). The artillery fire was a constant harassment, as it should be. You guys were pushing relentlessly with nicely coordinated tank and infantry assaults, all supported by artillery. It was a joy to behold, even though I was on the other side. It was the first time I've played that map where it wasn't a completely one-sided battle, which was very refreshing. Great rounds!

I got to play that round as the MG'er @ Mortar. It was the first time I had played that map and was probably the most fun I have ever had in an online game. There were so many awesome moments. Thanks for the patience in dealing with an inexperienced player on a new map. You guys made that round incredible.

The teamwork had improved quite a bit again tonight. I think everyone is starting to get the feel for this game and it is really starting to shine. This may be the best $22 I have ever spent.

The biggest problem to me is the artillery fires a bit too long and you cant cancel it. Sometimes you only need 1-3 good salvos to clear an area but you always get 6 I think and by the time they finish and your men are ready to advance new troops are in position. Also, in really didn't feel like the Axis were defending, you guys were constantly applying pressure on both the front and the flanks essentailly slowing the assault down enough to always allow more troops to arrive.

    Re: 16 Mar 2006

I played a handful of maps, but still haven't played seven of them, dang!! The beta maps still seem to be pretty popular among voters...

    From my personal notebook:

    1) Should play generic rifleman 80% of the time. Makes you appreciate the other kits a lot more, plus you get to work on those much needed bayonet CQC skills!!!

    2) Big props to aculle01 for stepping up to command Allies on Koenigsplatz. Some of those arty strikes had brutal results. Never got me, but many times I glanced up to see five or six of my teammates taken out by a single barrage. Had fun blowing up tanks with the satchel charge, and a couple of times we had a firefight by the Koenigsplatz West where Allies were on one side of a berm and Axis were on the other side chucking 'nades at each other. I had to go and ruin the fun by chucking a satchel charge!!

    3) I've determined that, like the Tactical Mod, there's some serious issues on "assault" type maps, mainly, the defenders have a huge advantage. I think we should obviously keep the maps stock for the time being, but so long as defenders make a "fighting withdrawal" throughout a round, they'll probably never lose. I think eventually the maps will have to be tweaked in some way, perhaps making more than one or two CPs capturable at a time, for example.

    4) I played sniper for one round...the snowy airfield with FLAK 88 guns. For some reason, the scope fills my whole screen now and I actually preferred it a lot more the other way. Did I fudge a setting or was this something that was automatically updated through Steam?? Anyway, everyone's ping on the server was close to 200 so it wasn't the best time to snipe...people were hopping all around in my scope like excited fleas!! Funniest thing I did, though, was plant myself in a bush beside an enemy tank. I had a string of successful kills from there, and I went the whole round without anyone knowing where I was. Nobody thought to check right next to their own tank trying to provide surpressing fire...

    5) Just read aculle01's post above this one. The number of salvo's per fire mission are determined server side. See this post for more info...

Press F12 for the different zoom on the sniper. You dont actually "zoom" in, you just get your peripheral vision back at the loss of more stuff being shown in your scope. I, personally, cant stand to snipe with the smaller scope because it just looks goofy to me.

I enjoyed giving the order to "fix bayonets" and "charge" when defending the last objective on Hedgehog (I think that was it, the one with the trenches surrounding the artillery positiona and command bunker).

I also enjoyed using the artillery to block off the attack route that I thought they were going to use next. Great job to the rest of my team on the timely spotting of their massing. In the end we lost the decider, by 40 seconds! Very close, great fun!

    Re: 16 Mar 2006

I took part in a half hearted German infantry assault on the North Fields on Arad. I would strongly recommend all infantry to steer clear of this area.

Actually Hyphedor and I were passengers on a half track that sort of ended up there at the very beginning of the round. While in transit, I just had to laugh as I heard many of you in tanks question why in the hell was there infantry going to North Fields. Yeah. Totally my thought too. Anyway we took cover by a couple of buildings south of the fields, and proceeded to watch the tanks pound the crap out of each other. It was pretty fun just watching and listening to the battle going around us, all the while knowing that eventually we'd be dead. Heph and I tried to get back into a half track and bug out, but couldn't get in. I've discovered that you can't get in a vehicle unless your standing up.

Later on Heph and I assaulted the North Village with some success. Had some face to face encounters with Soviet tanks that made us sweat. Thanks to whoever it was that blew up the Stalin tank with a Panzerfaust as it barrelled towards me. Heph even manged to plant a satchel on one just as it was blown apart by friendly tank fire. Had some CQB with infantry in the village, and took out an APC too.

Later on, I think it was Strag, was on the Soviet side in North Village and about six of us, led by none other than Turbo, pulled up in a half track pretty close to the building with the radio in it. Confusion ensued immediately upon dismounting the half track. Well, he/me/everyone panicked many times as my attempts to throw grenades in through a hole in the roof resulted in the grenade merely sliding down the roof and landing at my feet. After blowing both my face and feet off (they were red?), I gave up as I was just making a lot of noise and raising my life insurance payments. I yelled "clear" just to uh, pretend I'd contributed something.

It's evident to me that infantry is actually more important on this map than I first thought. If you can take the opposing village with infantry, it's not all that hard to hold against incoming armour with the cover the buildings provide. The counter being infantry preceeded by artillery to keep everybody inside, where you can corner and eliminate the stragglers.

Right at the end, about six of us, dismounted infantry, basically chilled at the Northern entrace of North Village and watched Turbo(or possibly Strag) call in artillery on the soviet tanks shelling the North Field. So we stood around a bit, watched the fireworks, and then hilarity ensued as someone finally fired at all six of us, breaking up our little of tea party / powwow. Tea-cup is number 7 on your item inventory by the way.

Also, does anybody else think entering the "woods" on Arad is not disimilar to an LSD trip? Not that I'd know and all. I'm just speculating. It breaks my brain. Try it, it'll take you half a round to get out.

    Good healthy fun.
