    AAR 21 March 2006

Great games! Last night's action taught me a few more things about Red Orchestra.

I think Königsplatz is one of the most brutal maps in RO because it's such a slugfest. The Germans CAN hold enough objectives to win the map, but it is definitely a tough fight. The Soviets can take the two western objectives fairly easily, but things really seem to get bogged down for them around the middle of the map. Even with artillery support, it can be hard for the Soviets to push the Germans off the Siegessäule. One thing that seemed effective for the German infantry was for them to take up positions both north and south of the Siegessäule, thus providing them with good fields of fire. During the beta I really didn't care for Königsplatz, but the games I've had on it with TG players have been excellent.

On the map (Odessa?) with the Apartments, the two Squares, and the Tower, I've learned that the MG42 can make a huge difference for the Germans, especially if used from a flanking position. Even with only one rifleman in support, a German machinegunner can lay down extremely effective fire. On this map, I would strongly recommend to the Germans using as many machinegunners as possible.

However, on the map with the Central Yard, the Petrol Station, and the Garage, the MG42 seemed almost useless for the Germans. This map involves a lot of CQB, and the machinegunner class just isn't able to get set up fast enough or provide effective fire in such close quarters. The advantage for the Germans in CQB seemed to be more with the submachine gunners (as it should be), as they were able to move quickly and still lay down a fairly heavy volume of fire. For the Soviets, the advantage was obviously with the riflemen and the sniper(s) while holding off the German attack from outside, and then the submachine gunners had the advantage during the indoor battles. In all, I found this to be a very tough map from the German perspective.

Wish I could have been there... saw quite a few in TeamSpeak but I was diligently working on the mutator.

And that work is much appreciated. As a matter of fact you are forbidden to play until it is done

I had quite a bit of fun last night. The map with the square and the apartments was a bit frustrating for me but I still enjoyed it. For some reason I was a constant target for Santa and his sniper rifle.

Good games last night. I only could play a few maps, but the ones we played were a blast. Esp. Odessa where we had to hold onto the tower for dear life. Strag did a great job of using the coordinate system to call out enemy movements

Hehe the best part of that round was when we were defending the tower against wave after wave of Ruskies and someone said "six minutes left". Someone replied "Six more minutes of THIS?!?"

I also had a great time last night. Stalingrad was a hoot. Vulcan was a one man wreaking crew last night.

Jesus, you somehow came out on the end of my rifle on what it seemed like every other shot. It was gettin pretty ridiculous, you were always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
