Our own beta server?

I'm sure the RO Admins have been in contact with RO officials but it may be worth trying to get a copy of the dedicated server to beta test on our server (perhaps for this Saturday). If that's not an option, what would be the probablity of installing Steam on our server and loading up the game and hosting a dedicated server that way (once you go into the game and host a game you can select 'Listen' or 'Dedicated'. Granted that would take a key, but perhaps they'd be willing to cough up one more if we told them it'd only be used for our dedicated server.

I don't know what type of server hardware we are running so it may very well be that the game can't be loaded/started on there and only a command line dedicated server would be a possibility. I'm trying to think out loud because this Saturday will be one of our last nights to test before release and there are still lots of things we should be testing. We could test server configuration as well as SOP's.

In addition, we could spot hardware or bottleneck issues with our server and attempt to fix them before Tuesday. I can assure you that if 70+ TG players buy the game and our forced on to public servers there are going to be a lot of people who will be ranting on the forums about how much they hate the game. Those of us in beta know exactly what I'm talking about; a few maybe all too well. Remember Konigzsplatz as Allied a few nights ago when we never even captured the first control point. Our team was in shambles and our tanks did nothing but cheer about how many points they were getting.

Wilsonam, are you listening?

Re: Our own beta server?

the server apo has commisioned for this venture can probably handle 3 or 4 RO servers at once with little to know lag.

I think both Apophis and Bonehead have been try to get something worked out but to no avail. They can fill us in more

Re: Our own beta server?

I don't know about 3 or 4 RO servers, but it can definitely handle 'without blinking' as Apophis put it.

Although I understand the reality of the situation, it is dissappointing that we can't at least host an internal beta server to work out some of our SOPs, etc. in a controlled environment. Especially with the hardware just sitting there and ready to go.

Re: Our own beta server?

We did initially ask for the ability to do this, I'm not sure if that has loosened up yet or if they would be willing to allow us to do this at this point in time. I'll shoot off an e-mail tonight to see if there has been any chance in their position, but I don't believe they want people running unofficial servers without permission.

Re: Our own beta server?

No - we simply don't have the time to mess about with now-obsolete server-side code (i.e. the Beta). It is all hands to the pumps to get to the 14th. We'll be issuing server-side as early as we can, obviously!
