Excellent server update news!

I wanted to update you all on the status of work on the fix for the Server Ping and Webadmin becoming unresponsive. We've been hard at work cranking away on both server and client related issues. I very happy to say that we have tracked down the source of the problem, and have a working fix!!! We are testing the fix internally now to make sure it is stable and will be rolling it out as a beta over Steam (using HLDS) very shortly. When it is rolled out as a beta, any server admin will be able to access it using the beta flag in the command line. These beta versions will be fully compatible with the current clients.

In addition to fixing the Webadmin/NA Ping issue, this update will also fix a rather nasty memory leak. With this memory leak, the previous level was not getting garbage collecting, so ram usage would effectively double, and this would cause an additional CPU load as well. I am fairly certain this was the cause of some servers running fine with 32 players for a while, then eventually becoming overloaded.

Finally, as part of this update we will be rolling out an updated linux server as well which has fixes for some of the crashing/stability issues as well as fixes for some of the admin bugs on linux (banning, session banning, etc).

As soon as the beta of these server updates are up on HLDS, I will let you all know. I highly encourage as many server admins as possible to run with these beta server updates and give me feedback on these forums.

Thank you all for your patience while we iron out these initial issues.

HORAH! I never noticed the issue until tonight... but daaannngg it was bad as far as lag was concerned. My poor sniper rifle couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at point blank...

I would also like to see the personal death cam... just because its rather neat to watch your body fall... not realistic... but who gives a darn. Make it so that they cannot manipulate the death cam on their own? idk

I was going to mention this as well. I kept an eye on the server all weekend (server #1, that is, did not see #2 in the browser at all). it was empty most of the weekend, except for about 7 people when I stopped in on Friday night @ roughly 10p EST. Might have been the beer, but after my first death, the screen went black, and I had to sit there watching nothing for 30 seconds.

I loved the map (KraznyOktiyabr), and wanted to hang on the server for sure, but just couldn't do it. I tried. Now, if you get that reaction from a player like me, the average "passer by" is definately not sticking around either unfortunately.

Filling up a server is a delicate balance of rules, and desired play-style changes, but also appealing to the most players possible (within reason).

Just my 2 cents fellas.

I went ahead and disabled the 'Blackout' function on our server. However you are still not able to spectate other players, you can only view your corpse.

No news on this yet, I'm actively monitoring the official RO forums and occassionally running the update command to pull in the file (if / when it becomes available).
