Poll: Death Message Mode

There are several death message modes available for RO and I'd like to get everyone's feedback on which one we should be using.

DM_All - All death messages.
DM_Personal - Only your own. Who you kill, who kills you.
DM_OnDeath - Unsure. Only see them when you are dead?
DM_None - No death messages.

I personally like Personal. It doesn't take the community aspect out of it but if your buddy is around the corner and you hear gun fire. You don't know who won the battle unless he reaches you on VOIP.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

I said ondeath. It's nice to know once it doesn't matter, but in-game death messages are unrealistic and a crutch as far as I'm concerned.

I said none at all, on Tank night, it just felt natural. You also really knew when you killed someone. If you absolutly needed to know, you could look at your score. No instant gratification. I loved it.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

I've played with no death messages on some other servers, and it seemed to work very well. You were never quite sure if your nade / shot got the guy in the room ahead of you, adding to the fog of war.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

I like the realism aspect of not having DMs but having them reminds me I am playing with friends and I feel home. Unlike a pubby or playing against bots.

IMHO, no DMs are more suitable for no-spawn games like AA.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

I chose no - I like the idea that the guy who's shooting at me isn't sure I'm dead and vice versa. adds more realism and that air of uncertainty. I've also developed this twitch that makes me look in the right hand corner of my screen everytime I shoot at someone

I voted for "only my own" but agree completely with jex. I also have that twitch!

Haha, yeah, I have the twitch too. It's annoying but it's true

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

Changing both servers to only reflect personal death messages. Poll is still open.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

I'm so confused. I noticed I got 1 point here and there on Wednesday night, but I never saw any death messages.

Re: Poll: Death Message Mode

Can the death message status be verified by someone with administrative access to the server? It seems like most of us want at least some of them to be on, and it was announced that they were supposed to be turned on.. But maybe they're off? All these changes / anomalies / bugs really work against me trying to figure this game out -- I'm having a hard enough time getting the stock game down
