    Compilation: Needed Code Changes

I just went back and read every post in a few of the threads from the past concerning RO. The first one was the First Impressions thread. Lots of complaints about the fluidity and lack of teamwork tools. Then I read the Second Impressions thread and it had a lot of great stuff in it:

From that it turned into what we see in the Server Feedback Weekend thread. I will admit this game doesn't have a great deal of teamwork tools built into it but let's not forget that our community is called TacticalGamer.com.

I've considered making more changes such as the ability to see tags of any player within 15m, but beyond that require focus however I'm not sure whether anyone will give the game another chance. Besides the squad aspect (which would take forever to implement) and SOPs regarding how to use 'makeshift' squads effectively, are there any ideas for code changes that you think would make you want to spend more time with RO (even if only a night a week).

    Right now I have:

ServerAds: Display messages (potentially brief SOPs) to dead players or players waiting to join the game. Information about mandatory squadding up before running out of spawn area, commander duties, etc.

Friendly Tags: Display all friendly tags within xx meters and friendly tags within xx with focus or iron sights.

Great post, Tzefanya. I know many players have said they need more tools in the game for teamwork. With your knowledge, maybe some of these tools could be implemented, if there is interest in them.

I think the main one would be the squad one you already mentioned. Otherwise, it's about reinforcement times and limits, which are already possible, and which you're already trying out.

Would it be possible to code in some more graphics for the commander to use on the mini-map? Such as arrows, dots, and misc objective markers that would help with cohesion?

I personally think the biggest thing that is lacking in this game is gratification for a job well done. I dont know if it is possible to set up some console commands that would allow players "give rep" to others. Make it "top down" so that only certain players could give it, but great playing and great team efforts would allow certain admins and community members to give out reputation to players. Then, have a script that would add certain tags to names, like pvt, pvt first class, sgt, ect ect. something like, giverep |TG|Strag

Kaine, great ideas. Why can't we use in-game VOIP and AARs for this sort of thing? These are tools that we already have, so there wouldn't need to be any additional development work done to get them in place.

If some (or all) of your teammates do a good job, give them some positive reinforcement on the Team VOIP channel. Even a quick "great job, guys, keep it up" when an objective has been captured (or held) can go a long way. If you see a machinegunner on your team doing a great job of suppressing a chokepoint, give him some quick props over the Team VOIP channel. Little things like this can really help to build morale, especially if everyone on the team is doing it.

AARs are a great place to single out players for praise, and they are much more public in nature. Everyone at TG can read AARs and see which players have been mentioned for exceptional teamwork and attitude. If a couple of players stand out during a round on Arad, jot down their names so you can remember to include them in your AAR.

So please, let's use these tools to build our RO community. We already have them at our disposal; they're just waiting to be used.
