Discussion: Red Orchestra: Ostfront / Red Orchestra - Map and Mod Development - Rank-Class Poll - "Only slightly limited" means, to me, "only slightly not what you want." There's no reason

"Only slightly limited" means, to me, "only slightly not what you want." There's no reason to restrict guns to leadership and vice versa.

Yes. And in the Red Army, sometimes troops were lucky to even GET a rifle.

So... Historical Accuracy versus Arcade play...
I guess where are we drawing the line between having arcade style leadership or historicly accurate leadership. If we go with kit based, those formations we all read about in the historical infantry references would actually work with little effort.

You have to draw a line somewhere. Early Soviet tanks didn't have radios so we could prohibit team channel on early armor maps for their side only. They often employed human wave infantry attacks so maybe no local channel either for them on early infantry maps. Both of those histroically justified mods could seriously hamper the fun of the game for many. I don't consider allowing people to choose their weapons regardless of rank to be "arcade play" but if you do then we are just drawing the line a different place. A poll with the majority vote determining the server config is fair as the admins can't please everyone. If, after trying it the majority way, there was overwhelming feedback that people didn't like it then I imagine they would consider a change.
