    Bodies Ect

    What is the time for:
    A. a body to stay around
    B. a gun and ammo to stay around.

Personally, i'm like to see both of these stay around alot longer, especially ammunition! I've known many a time when i have been out of ammo, but when i tried to grab a dead comrades his was shrinking away!
    Your opinions?

I think the longer they stay, the more server resources are required. with full servers on big maps, server resources are already stretched (reference the high pings towards the end of Tank night last night). that being said, recent news from TWI indicates a fix soon for what they have deemed a server-side memory leak IIRC.

So, maybe the over use of server resources will not be an issue in the near future. let's hope!

Everything needs to stay 1 second longer, because every time I make a grab for a gun it shrinks into oblivion. I mean come on, that's not cool. Now I have to go find my old gun, and who knows where I dropped that.

Seriously though, you can bet the Red Orchestra developers would have made things stick around longer if ti wasn't too much of a strain on the server.

True, but all servers are not created equal. They code for the lowest common denominator remember, so if our server could handle it... why not? Its the same thing with graphics, they code so that a old machine can play with the big boys, but if you are only playing with higher power comps, why allow lower end graphics?

I was reading in the ServerAdmin Tech support forum on the official site, and from Tze's comments, our server is not being loaded hard at all. Its just this blasted memory leak. So, how much of a load would placing objects on the ground for a certain amount of time be? I'd code a mutator (its a relativley simple variable i would imagine) to a dedicated server on my computer, but it would not represent how it would work on our server at all.

It wouldn't just be strain on the server, it would be a strain on the client. Bodies especially have the highest polycount of anything you're likely to find, and if they start building up people with lower powered systems (me) could start chugging.

If you feel like writing the mutator, probably

Tzef is really busy with other stuff, as it stands. This would probably go on the bottom of the "to try" pile.
