Server(s!) settings
Well, before the game is actually released, I was wondering what the setting for the (multiple!!!) server(s) would be. There seems to be a preference for longer respawn times and longer battles, so as to make reinforcement points more significant.
What are the admins thinking of implementing? What about the non-admin ones; what would you prefer?
I totally agree with longer respawn times, and they'd promote people not acting like idiots and getting themselves killed. Also, that will make the reinforcement system that much more appreciated, since people would have better chances of respawning in a relatively large squad. Something in-btw 1 to 2 minutes, perhaps (I'm leaning towards the latter)? For the map time itself, I guess it really depends on the # of reinforcements (and maybe on the map itself?). In any case, I think it should emphasize the point that reinforcements are limited, so the team which proves itself reckless will find itself at a serious disadvantage further on. Maybe a map time of 30-45-60 min? With a reinforcement score of 100, then on average each player would only be allowed to respawn 6 times. 6 times in 60 min I think is something reasonable. What do you think?

Re: Server(s!) settings
The admins are definitely discussing server settings. Longer map time limits and longer respawn times are things we may indeed do.

Re: Server(s!) settings
if/since we have more than one server, we can try different settings on each?

Re: Server(s!) settings
agreed - having played the beta servers, i'm definitely in favor of boosting the round times... but we should probably let everyone experience it stock (before any settings are fixed based on the experiences of "the chosen few"
)

Re: Server(s!) settings
I agree totally Bonehead. If the beta server map time limits are 'stock' then I think we need to up them from the beginning regardless. Shorter times tend to make people lean toward playing the frag fest style just because they have very limited time to reach an objective.

Re: Server(s!) settings
Agreed, game time MUST be increased to at least 30 minutes (10 minutes longer than beta servers). I'd really like to see it set for at least 60 minutes.
Reinforcements should be around 60 seconds for now. I'm not sure what it is in beta, 20 seconds?
Not that I'm being asked but...
PS. Are we going to have in-house squads for RO? What does it take to join one/create one? I can't dedicate the time to start one but I'd love to be in one if anyone will be looking once things get underway.

Re: Server(s!) settings
Generally speaking IHS's aren't limited to any one game... most play many games. There are a bunch that were formed from BF2 players, but there's lots of action between games... the 10th is mostly playing COD2 these days, and lots of guys from lots of squads are tragically addicted to EVE.

Re: Server(s!) settings
I think the 7th is planning on having an RO squad.

While I trust the admin team, I would still like to try things out stock with the exception of round time.

Re: Server(s!) settings
20 minutes doesn't sound like much time for a map.. but getting worked for an hour doesn't sound like fun either. I'm sure there's a balance in there someplace, huh?
Watching that gameplay video and reading about how easy it will be to die, I think that a 2 minute spawn timer would be an awful long time. I have a short attention span and lousy aim, so I'd get bored pretty quickly if I'm sitting around for 6 minutes out of every 10

Re: Server(s!) settings
Yeah, same here.
I think we should leave the spawn times intact but increase the game time. As we've said, this game has a learning curve, and the faster you can get back in to the action, the faster you'll learn.
Once everyone gets the hang of it, I could see where the longer spawn times would add a new dynamic to the game.Tac-D

Re: Server(s!) settings
Not that my vote counts but I'm for a 30 minute game with 30 second spawn waves.

Re: Server(s!) settings
I'd go with 45-60 minute games and probably 30-45 second spawn times. Going with the stock settings wouldn't fit our style no matter how you slice it.

Re: Server(s!) settings
also keep in mind that you spawn in a safe-zone... so whether the spawn times are 60 seconds or 5 seconds it doesn't have to affect much if there's an SOP to not move-out until you've got a 'complete' 'spawn-squad' with you...
