Re: talking?
Also check your settings in the configuration in game and make sure that you have the chat boxes selected.

IS the ingame VOIP there, beside you in the trench, passing you ammo, pointing out that next target...NO

Overlag is right, today and tonight no one was using VOIP and if they did they then clarified what in the world was said in TS."Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl."

Re: talking?
I was just trying to take things in tonight.. Was really, really confused. I'd hear people call out reports and had no clue where they were or where the enemy was. If/when I/we get acclimated, then I'm sure communications will pick up.

Re: talking?
I heard quite a bit of commucations...but I had both VoIP and TS on, so chatter was frequent.
Also get used to reading map coordinates (Foxtrot 6, for example) for "spotting" enemy targets.

Re: talking?
My typing does not work. It does not register letters sometimes and it often repeats a letter I typed once like 15 times. Maybe it doesn't do it for you but I can't really respond in text.

Re: talking?
Does the in-game voicecomm of RO sound more like CSS or more like TS?

Re: talking?
BF2 probably has the best ingame VOIP out there, not its that good. If everyone could get it working it would do the job, but people are having to change settings to get it to work, but its getting there.
you can hear the people and see a name of who is talking, so it works.that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: talking?
Natural Selection (any HL1 title), when configured as TGNS is, has the beat in-game VOIP, at Tactical Gamer if not anywhere. It rivals TS on any codec but its highest. It's purely satisfactory.
That's why I'm curious about this, yet another title about which I'm observing anything less than pure satisfaction when it comes to voice quality.
Does anyone know why we've yet to see a title from the 21st century rival the in-game VOIP quality of the 20th (granted, HL1's improvements came in the 21st, but still...)? Is it just not reasonable, from a server or network load perspective (so many more players than HL1), maybe, to drive such high-quality voice inside a title?
I just don't understand. Surely there's a good reason, as title after title takes this route.Steam Community? Add me. | Join #tacticalgamer | Search Results Legend | New Posts Forum Filter | Postbox Toggle | Live Thread Review | One Line Results | Free Remote, Encrypted Backup

Re: talking?
I could actually understand people unusually well, and I often have problems with VOIP comprehension (haven't tried TG TS yet). In BF2 I tend to use PgUp and PgDn rather than speak, and I rarely squad lead (although that's changing lately due to the Challenge thread, heh) because of that. Here, no issues whatsoever.
Mind you my experience is limited. My own TS (decent), BF2 (okay), DoD:S (horrible!), UT2004 (don't remember :P) and now this.

Re: talking?
Wyz, I don't think I can answer your broader question, but I may be able to offer some insight into RO's VOIP.

So I would say it's more an issue of getting the VOIP to work properly, rather than an issue of poor quality VOIP.
Tripwire says there is some sort of issue with Creative cards (something about EAX) that causes issues with RO's VOIP, if I remember correctly. I don't know if this is something that will be resolved soon, if at all.
I hope this helps!

Re: talking?
That's good to hear, Strag.
I'm just really ready to hear about stellar voicecomm quality in today's new titles -- OR -- have someone educate me as to why that's so absent by design, as the trend might suggest.
I don't know (read: "I don't know") why we can't expect voicecomms which sound, plainly, as good as TeamSpeak.Steam Community? Add me. | Join #tacticalgamer | Search Results Legend | New Posts Forum Filter | Postbox Toggle | Live Thread Review | One Line Results | Free Remote, Encrypted Backup
