When I fianlly shot somone it really felt like I had accomplished something. It's really a challenging game.

I love the tank maps. The concept of crewing a tank is too cool and it was a blast even if I kept getting blown up.

The weapons are a thing of beuty and I am in love with the MG42.

    Dislikes:
The whole squad thing has got to be figured out. At one point somone said "half follow me the other half go here". There is no way to tell who is talking without being right next to them so it makes it very difficult to organize. I spent most of the games wandering around asking "where is everyone?"

Only having one way point on a map really limits communication. It would be helpful to be able to lay out a couple for different groups.

Did you verify the install? One of the released threads had a fix for this.

Strag has already suggested that to the devs, not sure if it will ever be done.

At first in the beta no one was working together and they were just trying to get the hang of the game. After a few days a lot of people started using the VOIP and it got a lot better. This is a new concept for VOIP and we will have to adapt to it. I think we will get the hang of it soon.

Cing are you still having the same problem that you had with the beta?

The sniper rifle was the most deadly thing out there by far - I racked up about a dozen kills with it, probably more than all my other kits combined. Boy those bolt-actions are frustrating. However, the more I think about it, the more I think I like BF2 TacMod better - it simply has more to offer, and is more entertaining to me. Between RO and TacMod, though, I have no interest in playing vanilla BF2 ever again.

    My short list:

    Likes:
    - Slowed down pace is a real relief from BF2 vanilla
    - Environment is dynamic, and cover is excellent
    - Sound effects are quite something
    - Openable and closeable doors. The "behind the door" battles were a lot of fun
    - Realistic weapons are great
    - Realism overall is great

    Dislikes:
    - Clumsy feel, delayed reactions are realistic but frustrating
    - Almost total lack of navigational aids - such as locations of teammates, orders, waypoints, anything. It's tough to balance these aids yet maintain realism, but I find myself wanting them.
    - The map is crude and difficult to interpret - buildings look like farm land, farm land looks like buildings, etc. This combined with the lack of nav aids make finding your way around really tough - so tough that you sometimes die while you're looking at your map, scratching your head. That really sucks.
    - No squad based play and communication. VOIP options are limited to entire team, which doesn't lend itself well to splitting up into squads.
    - No medics. I don't think we need revives here, but if I get shot in the arm, it would be nice to be able to have a squad mate patch it up.

These are just first impressions, though. I do like the game, but think it needs some tweaks. I also still like Tactical Mod and don't think we should give up on that, in fact given the choice, I'd rather play tacmod - it's just so much more dynamic and entertaining.

Ditto my sentiments exactly (with the exception of voip as there is a "local" channel as well). I think this is a fabulous game and a great change of pace from bf2 tac mod, but it is a very different style of game more similar to DOD then BF2 and I just prefer the style of BF2 on a random night game. For match play I expect ROOST will be somewhat superior to BF2 as its potential is realized, but teamwork tools are lacking for a consistent nightly experience.

Go to your "My games" menu in Steam. Select Ro and click "Properties" at the bottom of the window. Click on the "Local files" tab, and then click on "Verify integrity of game cache" . It will then update RO and hopefully you'll be good to go.

The realism of the game beggars the interface.

Yes, I've verified integrity. This is a known bug from before I joined the beta test. The developers will say nothing other than that it's not their fault. I sure wish Mr. Wilson would comment on this... The Steam forums have a LOT of angry people that want their money back!

Heh, someone gave me rep saying that they hope that I get my problem resolved so that I can find other things to dislike!

Thought that was funny and needed to be shared!

The only reason i did no team work was i had absolutely zerp clue as to what i was doing. I really had no idea where anything was or how to get there lol. I ended up just following random people. I think i pretty much got how to use the guns. I really need to learn the maps and get voip working, then youll see some teamwork. Ill keep trying, but its definately not for the faint of heart.

    - Movements are realistic - except for the jumping height ability which is a tad low

    - Weapons and general gameplay feel realistic

    - Sounds are great and realistic - I like to hear gunshots from 200+ yards away, I know something's going on there.

    - Draw distance is identical for all types of objects. So when you are hiding in tall grass, the enemy cannot see you - unlike BF2 where grass is only rendered closeby, which makes it easy for enemies to spot you when you think you're hiding

    Dislikes

    - Graphics are not sharp - I feel like I'm playing my game at 800x600 when my settings and LCD monitor are actually 1280x1024

    - Not enough tools to communicate. Who can hear me when I speak on the local channel? The guy standing next to me, probably, how about that guy in front? Going to require a lot of efforts to get organized, including some communication protocol.

    - Not enough tools before a round starts / a wave spawns. This is a tactical game, right, so I'd like to draw some attack plan on the map at least. I would also like to choose my kit depending on what others have chosen.

Disable HDR Bloom and enable AA and AF on your video card thru windows.

    Likes:

The inability to jump easily up to an object that stands about shoulder high.
The inability to jump much at all.
The lack of a need to jump by player interaction with the terrain.
Finding the perfect wall to hide behind and shoot over the top, only to realise that it gives you no visibility at all because it is about 20 pixels to high to be of any use, only to find theat when yo aim through your ironsights you take a position where you can see clearly.
    The concept of local VOIP.
Rewards over finding a nice spot in cover and having complete initiative in this solid defence.
Realistic infantry modelling (feels cumbersome to BF2, but you try playing GR in comparison and you should see what I mean)
How different weapons need to be handled differently, they really feel like they are very different.
BULLET DROP! Now snipers will be snipers are they are the most skilled and dedicated to the role.

    Dislikes:

The grenade fest that was the building map i played first
Not being able to use the ' key becuase it brings up the console.

I won't criticise anyone for a lack of teamplay - we are al still getting used to the interface. The teamplay will come.

I know it's still early, but if you pick the "commander" role, please at least try and command + use artillery. If you need help, please ask for it and don't get too caught up in "fighting" to command. This is just like any other game here; the commander shouldn't be in the front lines if it inhibits his ability to coordinate and use artillery effectively.
Sorry, and thanks to Strag for showing me where the radio was

Wow Wulfyn you really hate jumping don't you? I hope you never have the misfortune to play Halo multiplayer then .

As for the teamplay issue. It's confusing enough to learn the maps and get the hang of the game without having to try to coordinate things, but it'll come soon. I did see plenty of teamwork when i played around 9PM last night and we were doing each map 3 times. Gave everyone time to learn the map and get comfortable.
