Teamwork
After playing yesterday and reading on some of the comments there was little to NO teamwork. People would respawn and then run around by themselves and there was a lot of solo play going on. Perhaps this was due to the VIOP issues or the learning curve, but I hope we can start working as a team soon otherwise people will not see the potential of this game.
We can probably start with having a commander as Strag mentioned in this thread:

Re: Teamwork
Remember, if your VOIP is not working, set your sound to "3D audio". It fixed VOIP completly for me, even local.
As to teamwork, the game just came out yesterday. Does anyone really expect total teamwork on the first day? Give it time, use VOIP, and wait at the spawn until you have 3-4 guys with you THEN move out.War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling that thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable creature, who has no chance at being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. -- John Stuart Mill--

Re: Teamwork
Such lackluster coordination is common with new titles, even at Tactical Gamer, as are threads like this. No harm.
I know it's easier said than done, but give it time. I'd say two to four weeks (two to spend the whole evening frustration-free; four to need a cigarette when you're done).
This title is too perfectly matched with Tactical Gamer for it not to work. If that match makes everything come together overnight, for whatever reason (Leonidas', for example), then yay us. If not, just give it a little time.Steam Community? Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Re: Teamwork
Well I must say that my feeble attempt at teamwork was to run behind someone and stick to them like glue. I never ran off on my own, but something slightly more organized would have been better. A few of the times I tried to do this, they got 5 steps ahead of me and vanished. It felt like one of those police chases in the movies where the guy comes around a corner and sees 3 possible ways the perp could have gone.

Looking forward to trying some more as the techniques get ironed out.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: Teamwork
I spent half the time in the config screen and the other half experimenting. Too early to worry about teamwork IMO.

Re: Teamwork
I guess i was playing a different game cuase i seen a lot of team work, or atleast alot of players going to the same objectives to get the win. We had alot of just going to that area and captureing the objective, alot of chatter to on the VOIP. Until we can figure out how to set something up thats all we really can have. I dint see to much run and gun either
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Teamwork
well the run and gun is pretty much impossible to do. As for teamwork its was basically just a lot of "hey! follow that guy!" and you all run in the same direction hoping he knows where hes going to bumrush a point.

but it was day one so i didnt expect much more. The game mechanics/interfaces ARE going to make it TG's responsibility to develop teamwork. The tools are weak in my opinion but it should be able to come together from our side.
One thing that hinders squad/team play that will probably need a solution is when 4 guys all spawn as the most basic kit/rifleman (due to kit limits) on a map. There's little to no diversity in a squads make-up once you respawn or when someone bites it. I think that hampers the team play a little. Its hard to coordinate and take objectives when the tools you have are so limited.Long Live the 2nd BCT and 1st MIP

Re: Teamwork
Yeah, and I think this is more of what we'll see for the first couple of days as folks get set up and adjusted. Most of the "communication" I heard last night was stuff like:

"Umm.....does anyone know how to throw a grenade?"
"Why can't I get in a tank??"
"Wow, I just got run over by a tank."
"How do I pick up someone's gun?"
"How do I know who's on my team???"
It'll take a little while before communication becomes more like this:
"Friendly machinegun set up at Bravo Seven, watching south."
"Friendly squad approaching the Warehouses from the west."
"Need artillery at Alpha Four!"
"Heavy enemy contact at the Eastern Farm House. Need backup!"
"Two enemy tanks at Echo Three!"
"Friendly artillery inbound to Alpha Four!"
"Need a machinegunner at the Tower ASAP!"
"Strag's squad covering east of Delta One."Last edited by Strag; 03-15-2006 at 03:50 PM.

Re: Teamwork
Yeah, I actually sang your praises in the 1stMIP forum, btw. I either thought you were the coolest guy in the world, or it was all a clever ruse to pick up my sniper rifle after I was dead...

You're right. I muttered pretty much every phrase you mentioned on Tuesday and about 5% of the time I received some sort of response, usually a question. Too early, too early...

Re: Teamwork
It really depends on the map as well, it seems. On that one Kausakus map, where the allies lost all defensive positions and were left to defend the base at all costs, with the axis attacking from all fronts, that was some awesome teamwork right there.

Re: Teamwork
It was a ruse. Nah. I figured it was next to impossible for you to see everything going on so i figured it would help us both to defend that Railyard as a team. Plus it kept me alive longer because anyone you missed you pinned in places i could rack up some kills without them killing me first.

Especially in RO the less the sniper has to worry about the deadlier theyre gonna be. I only sniped one round (i'm always last one loaded in and get leftover kits) cause turbo let me pick up his kit last night. That scope and its accuracy makes a good sniper the most dangerous person on the field tactically.Long Live the 2nd BCT and 1st MIP

That my friend, is THE ultimate tactical gaming experience ! I hope this becomes a reality very soon. Radio communication is a huge part of getting into the game.

Re: Teamwork
Request acknowledged and accepted.
From now on if anyone sees me in game I am more than happy to act as a sergeant to whomever is around me and help co-ordinate and order them around. Yes, I like shouting.
Seriously tho, this game doesn't work with established squads at the mo in terms of how you respawn. At the start it may work (Wulfyn take 6 guys and capture the tower), but if I die.. then what? So yeah we ned a fluid wy of resolving who is in command in order to co-ordinate efforts. I think this can work but it needs to be objective based. If I respawn near the area that I died defending then I can be back to take over, and in fact the enemy should be rewarded for taking out the opposition's officer, and I should have kept my head down a bit more shouldn't i?
So if you hear a British accent shouting "Rally Up!" with my tag on the left of your screen then switch to local and call in to my position.
