RO as a tank simulation
Currently, I am much more interested in armored combat part of RO rather than infantry part. Because:
1) Playing the game as a tank crew solves the organization/cohesion problem. You and your two buddies are always together in the tank, fight together, die together and spawn together. By rotating driver/gunner/commander positions, you can experience different roles.
2) I love tanks and have been waiting for a good tank simulation for a long time. Until a good one comes out (Steel Beasts II or WWII Battle Tanks) I can be a happy camper with RO
I have a suggestion. If there are others interested in armored combat, can we have a day for armor-only maps?
Comments?

Perhaps server 2 could have specialty map days?

Re: RO as a tank simulation
In that case, can we start a test run for this Thu Trooper? Only tank maps (we may also put a description into server name). There might be some others who are not happy with infantry part of the game but enjoying the tank battles.

Re: RO as a tank simulation
WW2OL spoiled me when it comes to armored combat, it's really the one thing where that game shines. I'm frustrated with RO's keymapper, if I could copy my control scheme with what I use for WW2OL I'd be a happer camper. As it stands that keymapper stinks.

Re: RO as a tank simulation
I like the armor combat in RO quite a bit, save for the fact that the maps are relatively small. This is an interesting idea, John. I wouldn't mind if we made it tanks only because obviously the AT and Sapper kits do horrible things to armor at close range, and killing infantry with tanks in RO is "buggy" at best.
But yeah, if we agreed to do tanks only, no infantry and no artillery, it would be pretty fun just lining up and hammering at each other. I always thought that was a great part of the game.
And I guess that means the German tanks would only need a crew of two, since the guy on the MG would be obsolete with no infantry to mow down.
Anyway, this is just they way I envision this going down...it may or may not be what others want or imagine. Just a thought...|TG-1stMIP|Coridon

Re: RO as a tank simulation
Map voting could be changed on Server #2 to allow voting on every map in the list. This way, you could choose any map you wanted at any time simply by voting for it.

Re: RO as a tank simulation
Yeah i was gonna say i can take out any infantry maps from the rotation so that only the tank maps are in it, which would make it easier for you to pick what map you want.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: RO as a tank simulation
I will need to make some additional changes to server #2 if you want to go this route. It probably shouldn't have the black out mutator enabled since it's not really needed in tank combat. We may think about increasing the round timer to 1.5x or even 2.0x - or leaving it as is? It's also setup as a best of 3 rounds right now also.

Re: RO as a tank simulation
Thank you for the support gentlemen. We might attract a "tank sim fan" crowd with a weekly event like this.
Cor, I would suggest to leave the decision to player. AT/Sapper soldiers are a part of armored combat so let them pick those if they want. It adds a challange for tank crew and gunner position will have a use. Same goes for artillery unless charge time is very short.
Here is the proposed setup:
When: Thursday 2000 EST
Place: Server 2
Event Description
-----------------------
This event is for gamers who enjoy armor battles of RO. On the other hand, players are NOT required to choose Tank Crew class.
Recommended Playing Style (Optional)
-------------------------------------------------
- Three players form a tank crew at the beginning and stay together until the end of the round
- Tank crew rotates positions (driver, gunner, commander) at each spawn
- Developing SOPs incuding communication standards (movement, maneuvers, SITREP, etc) and Tactics will significantly increase the fun. (If this event works out, we will post our procedures/tactics on RO forums for others to use if they want).
Requested Modifications From Admins
-------------------------------------------------
- Add "Tank Maps Only" into server name (TacticalGamer Server 2 - Tank Maps Only"
- No black-out mutator
- Round time: 2X
- Infantry maps taken out of rotation because people who have no idea what is going on might vote for them and ruin the night for tank personnel
