About the squads...
Wouldn't it be ridiculously easy to have multiple channels for both sides on TS? Each side gets maybe 5+ teams or so. The in-game team VoIP would be used for widespread communication, and TS would be for 'squads'. "You're defending north side, join team #2." With hotkeys, you could make switching channels pretty easy. After you respawn, you could, depending on your orders, rejoin your previous group at their location, or form a new one at the spawn site, in which case the commander who assign you all to a new 'squad'. Switch channel, done and done.

Re: About the squads...
The idea is using hot keys is great, but its amazingly hard to get everyone into the correct channel at the same time. Good idea if it could be implemented correctly and easily.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: About the squads...
Still, it wouldn't be anything more than an inconvenience that would be rectified with good leadership. If this is the main barrier preventing some players from getting into this game....??

I tried that That is why we have two channels now, but even those are not being used.
RO and T/S

Re: About the squads...
trying to put 32 players, includeing those pubs who are not on TS, getting into channels on TS is just no plausable. It would be different if you could alt tab out of the game without crashing it. As an admin thats just something i dont want to have to mess with, let alone try and organize the channels to the objectives per map
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: About the squads...
A shame, really. I've just joined Battle for Europe, which does a weekly 8-hr scrim every saturday over some maps (including a metagame where the sides battle over the map of Europe over locations). Proper chains of commands, with regiments and such. People join TS before entering the server. Officers assign them into squads, then they join. In-game, all is set.

And that would probably work if auto balance was not on, auto assign was not on and you were told which side to join. For us here it would not work on a day to day basis.

Re: About the squads...
Especially not if the servers were public. A moot point if half the players aren't on TS

Re: About the squads...
The biggest problem of those tournaments (well, for me) was the playing time. Lets say you made your plans for the weekend and have time to play between 6 pm - 8 pm. Can you? Do they have a fair slot assigment system? Or you just show up and if there are many people, you just have to wait in Teamspeak channel?
