Re: I take it all back!
so I'd like to play, but uh... how.
I'm serious - when you play and enjoy it, what do you do? do the stickied SOPs make sense? (waiting for group of three to spawn before heading out, etc..)
any other practical tips that might help the uninitiated enjoy it more?
(another thought - maybe some of those that DO play it regularly could play as the commanding officer for a few rounds and try and organize some teamwork?)

Re: I take it all back!
Did you watch the training videos on the Red Orchestra website, or read the manual? Once you understand how to do things, it's like any other game; take the objectives. Flanking the enemy is always a good idea, as is setting up bounding overwatch and suppressing fire. On combined arms maps, move with the tank or use it to push through, and on defense wait for the enemy to come to you and call out their lanes of advance. Move from cover to cover, and only fire when you have cover yourself. Keep near your teammates and alert each other of enemy sightings.

Re: I take it all back!
Like Nike once said... just do it. It's very bad just to abandon a game like RO and never revisit it, I have to say I find the game to be a LOT more tactical than BF2 and once you get use to it a LOT more fun. Plus, there's no ranking system and you have more people that want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Instead of giving reasons why the game WAS bad when it came out, load it up and see for yourself, we could have a very popular server if we got a little better member support, as soon as public players saw 1 or 2 TG members on they jumped in, resulting in there being WAY more pubbies then members and I still had a lot of fun. Think about what RO would be like if we stopped nitpicking what we do and don't like about the game and then saying because it's not perfect we won't play it, that's very foolish. So like I said, instead of forgeting RO as being "no BF2", think of it as "a great WW2 game."
The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

Re: I take it all back!
I had trouble sleeping today (work nights/sleep days) and ended up playing RO for about two hours and really had a swell time.
One of the problems I had with the game originally is that the maps are amazingly small so you memorize the layout pretty quickly, and on maps like Stalingradkessel there are only maybe 5-6 places for a sniper to position, etc. I really like the addition of smoke, and it really adds a dynamic dimension to the maps so they don't feel so confined anymore. Plus the smoke looks like a big grey sandstorm rolling towards you when you see it coming, which is visually stunning.
I also think the "weapons rest" works better because I remember last time I played (probably April) there were many rounds where I cursed and cursed because I spent more time trying to steady my weapon than firing it.
Still hate getting my tank "caught" on a split-rail fence and having to abandon it, though...
There are other things I still find lacking but I shan't mention them here.
Try the game out, guys! Also hook up with some tagged players as well. Five months after release and a lot of those players know the ins-and-outs pretty well and are impressive to watch when CPs come under threat, etc. They really know what needs to be done when things start to unravel...|TG-1stMIP|Coridon

Re: I take it all back!
I'll probably download the game this weekend and try it out on Saturday, or maybe Monday, depending on my work schedule. I love WW2 games, so...

Re: I take it all back!
heh IFF (identify friend or foe) is pretty simplistic really, just look at the uniforms. Turn OFF HDR BLOOM or whatever it may be called, that makes it difficult... but otherwise, it's usually pretty easy to figure out whos who.
But the abilitiy to figure out whos who, on your team, is a real pain in the ass|TG|Clodhopper - Intelligence is the key, but I'm locked out!

Re: I take it all back!
sounds like you really have to "swarm" with one another... taking action based on your kit?
