    Hey all,

I'm preloading RO:Ost now and hope to give it a try tomorrow. Looking forward to some fun with ya'll.

Haven't played much since the early days of the RO mod's 3.3 release and one day on TG's UT2K4 RO mod server (frustrated me to tears since it was all pubbies and no TG guys). The silly Zonealarm bug stopped me from picking up the game when it was released but now I'm really looking forward to giving it a go since I loved and played the mod a lot.

Thanks Strag. Wasn't paying attention as to which forum I was actually in when I posted (down side of tab'd browsing or just not paying attention).

Have fun! It's a heck of a game, and hopefully your frustration won't be so bad this time. Since people have to buy the game, only dedicated team players end up playing, especially compared to other games.

I will also be taking a look. I remember playing the old mod version and it didnt' look that great and was fairly confusing\slow.

I'm sure the steam version is better though.

Red Orchestra is often a very slow game, like Ghost Recon, America's Army, Rainbow 6, or real life. There are moments of intensity punctuated by long sections of crawling around and waiting. The smaller maps can get pretty frantic though.

Re: Going to give the free trial a run...

I'll be joining in on the free trial as well. Waiting for Steam to say I'm allowed to play since my pre-load is all done. Game seems interesting from what I've seen and read.

I suppose I should take the time now and read up any threads with some good pointers. Might be a good time to point these out since I imagine a number of TG players are going to test out the game.

EDIT: Ah and for clarity: According to my little steam window, we have 1 hour and 38 minutes left untill the free weekend (as of 2:22 PM Eastern Standard Time). The preload does take some time though, sooner you start, the better.

For you and those like you out to try the game out during this, I suggest you all play atleast one round in "practice mode" or until you get a little idea as to how the game runs.

    Good luck!

The training videos on the RO:OST website are good for newbies, too. I would have liked them when I was starting out

Yeah, I was surprised the server was full when I attempted to log on at 2100 EDT. Was able to join rather quickly, though, and since I was the only person with a TG tag I was bombarded with questions about the game I didn't know how to answer...bah!!

The game still has issues but it's still quite fun if you get past the "squad mentality" and just stick with your teammates that are closest to you in proximity.

I was only able to play for about an hour before I had to leave for work but I'm definitely going to revisit this game in the next couple of weeks...

(not Thursday, however, as it's BF2 TacMod!)

Re: Going to give the free trial a run...

I saw 4 TG'ers on tonight. Hope more show up before the trial ends.

I'm still getting used to the new features/controls and things as well as learning the new maps. One thing I'll say I definately DON'T like is the loading times. They're much longer than the mod and I think I was missing the first round spawn every time (rarely happened with the mod, and yes, my hd is defragged etc.).

Most of the maps I played on tonight were new to me or changed enough to confuse me so I didn't do well for most of the time I was on (though I don't think I tk'd a single teamate). The last map before the other TG'ers left was the big open airbase one (forgot the name already) with destroyable objectives. Things started to work better there as a TG teamate led me to the targets I needed to satchel. After everyone else was gone Krasny came up and it hasn't changed much so I did quite well there defending Petrol Yard with my trusty svt40 till I got bored and called it a night.

They certainly have implemented a lot of the features I used to bug the dev's about every time I saw them in game during my mod playing days.

Re: Going to give the free trial a run...

Unfortunately... even after all my ranting and raving about how much I'd love to play this game tonight with a full crew of TGers, I was forced to miss it due to personal reasons out of my control. If things can improve a bit, I'll be on tomorrow (which was the official night at one point, right?) I guess by the sounds of it, not a lot showed up... which is disconcerning...

I did get a chance to play a little with Gileren, hills and a few others on another server (TG being full of pubbies) and I was (atleast felt it was me) bombarded by so many questions from everyone! A lot of complaints too... which is disconcerning aswell

Just like to say again, do what I did to learn the game, play a round or two in practice mode, with the bots. You can win in practice mod if you use the bots to your advantage (they listen to commands). Let it be a chance to understand how the weapons are used and how to effectivly use them. You can't run in full tilt, pull up your sights and expect to hit anything like in battlefield 2 or CoD2. Find a spot, dig in and go from there... work your way up slowly, use ground as cover.

Ohh, and find a good server :P If you have a bunch of idiots running around like idiots without any real direction, you may be in a server full by newbies trying the trial too, avoid that and it'll be a good friggin' battle

Re: Going to give the free trial a run...

I am getting back into this game again. Wanted to check out the booster pack contents... The new map is pretty nice.

Also TG server is cooler than other ones... And I think we actually have regulars who like our mutators. Because last night there were no TGers on but bunch of pubbies. So it might be getting popular out there.

Oh it was change to actualy line up your shot for 5 seconds and shoot once to drop your enemy instead of pop up and shoot style.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Putting your steam ID in in your forum profile will allow all you supporting members that couldn't get on. It will make room for you as long as that steam ID is in your profile, I tested it when the server was full last night and it worked fine.

Edit: Never mind, the server is full and I can't get in, disregard the advice I gave above.

PS- Server two was up last night, but isn't there now?
The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.
