Team Play
I thought I would start this.
After playing the beta I have found that this is going to be a very TG style tactical game. The run and gun tactic is not going to get the mission done. There are some objectives that need to be accoumplished on each map. Taking this slow and tactfully is the only way to go. The slower the game the better. The way we do things in AA, DoD and CoD2 are the only way to go. Setting up fire teams should make play alot more interesting. We have T/S channels set up for each side, and using them along with the in game voice is going to make a big differance on our tactical play.
Sorry Bommando, no medics............

Re: Team Play
Keep the teasers coming Bubba!

The comm posts you and Apophis have made made sound quite cool. Haven't even seen the game and I'm more impressed with the tactical design of this game then any other game I've ever been involved in. This could become the quintessential game for showcasing TG.
The fact that you guys aren't mentioning frequent crashes, etc. makes me feel good about a relatively stable release as well.

Re: Team Play
The tank crews will be a nice change. An actual difference between the standard infantry and a tank crewmember. In the RO beta are the tanks overwhelming to the infantry or will infantry, with the right tactics and weapons, be able to elminate the tanks easily?
I know in the Army we trained a lot on defense from light infantry and SF attacks. Our howitzers were sitting ducks while we buttoned up to shoot."Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl."

Re: Team Play
I can't wait until the first time I get team killed by Coridon. Nothing says teamplay like giving a live grenade to a teammate

On the team play opportunities this game presents: It really does sound like real life tactics will rule the day and I'm excited to hear that. I just hope it isn't on a scale that removes you from the action for long periods of time.Last edited by Faultline; 03-01-2006 at 05:10 PM.

Re: Team Play
Faultline, one of the beta guys can confirm but I believe the re-spawn time is a server setting so it's not like AA for example where once you go down you are out.

Re: Team Play
It will be interesting to see how you keep a squad operating effectively without spawn on SL and medics that BF2 has addicted us to.
Will we end up with half a squad on one side of the map and the other half spread out trying to join up?|TG-12th| SHINER

Re: Team Play
I will have to check to see if you can select a spawn point. If I remember right you spawn at your foward most point if you have control over it. If you lose all your capture points there is no spawn point.

This is what I like to hear. Some time to think about what is going on, and plan. I can't wait.

Re: Team Play
Will 32 players just be slopped onto the battlefield, with no organization to begin with? In BF2 they made organization easy because you could get 6 people in a squad that had VOIP with eachother. Is there anything somewhat similiar to that, or will there be 32 players each with VOIP conflicting with eachother with no sense of leadership? I just hope theres more playing with your team than finding your team.

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
It was my understanding that there were three "talk" buttons...one for squad, one for team, and one for "all". Also from what I read, the "squad" size was variable, because what I read was that a tank crew had their own channel, etc.
Maybe I'm just optimistic, but that sounds fan-frickin'-tastic...
I'll try and find the link for this info, but there's so many RO links flying around now I might have lost it...|TG-1stMIP|Coridon

Re: Team Play
Well, there are no in-game squads, per say. The 'squad' VoIP is a local team one.

Re: Team Play
Their will only be 32 players in total so only 16 on each side. Their is also a commander that can put down way points and give out orders. I would think of it as one large squad. I believe you only have one objective at a time so troops shouldn't be all over the place like in BF2. The fighting should be heavily focused in one area at a time.

Re: Team Play
Up to you to get organised... we aren't going to "force" people into units. Nothing worse than trying to be in a squad with someone who just runs off anyway
