Infantry AT Weapons - Experience so far.
After one night of play this is what I have seen.
German Panzerfaust -
I played mostly as Axis and tried many times to take out some Russian tanks with the Panzerfaust. If you bring up the sights you see a set of numbers 30 - 60 - 90 going from bottom to top of the sights. At a distance I have yet to hit a tank, this will take some practice. Up close I hit a Russian IS tank at 20 feet away and it bounced off all three times. The Panzerfaust has a shaped charged HEAT type explosive that doesn't have an arming range and should take out most tanks at that range. I doubt that is the suggested range to engage a tank, but I just couldn't get a hit at farther ranges. I got close by covering the target with the front of the Panzerfaust and raising it a little higher on each shot. I look forward to testing this weapon some more, so watch out you tread heads.
Russian AT Rifle -
Both times using this weapon I set afire or destroyed my target. I put the sights of the weapon on the left side tracks about half way down the hull of a Russian IS. Both times I killed a Russian to get his AT rifle :-) The first two rounds hit and the 3rd had the engine smoking. The 4th set the backside of the tank on fire and the 5th destroyed the tank. This seems to be a very effective AT weapon at very good range. Not sure if this is historically accurate, but it is fun. I suggest using two of these rifles in a team to ambush tanks. You could hide and destroy tanks at will."Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl."

Yeah, the only time I've had much luck with this weapon was when I hit a tank from the rear. I've had a couple of one-shot kills that way, but rarely much luck from the sides and never from the front. I got to the point where I would find cover, go prone, let the tank drive by, and then hit it from behind.

I would suggest checking out the tank schematics and adjusting your AT play towards each tanks weakness. It worked wonders for kills and makes it easier for you to figure out which are yours and which arent.Long Live the 2nd BCT and 1st MIP

Yeah, I like the PTRD more than the faust. Though once I did get lucky and manage to guess the distance right (the highest range) to a T34, and it landed smack dab on the top of the tank, blowing it up.

On that tank map with the north and south field control points, I fired 3 panzerfausts at an allied tank from a distance of about 50 feet. I think the tanker noticed me running around after the first because of the noise I made because someone hopped out but was easily killed by my SMG.. Anyways, all 3 shots hit one of the wheels from the side but the tank lived through it. Not quite what I expected.

To adjust the panzerfaust sight, while in iron sight view, press your bayonet/deploy key. This will let you cycle through the 3 sight ranges.

Good to know, maybe I should read the manual too.

Go look through the diagrams of the tanks on the RO site- they show you where the ammo storage locations are on each tank. THAT is the sweet spot. I took down a Panzer on Arad with one shot from the PTRD... just one hit on the right side in the ammo bay blew it to pieces.
I'm much more fond of the PTRD on open maps like Arad. The Panzerfaust is much easier to use in close city settings that require quick fire/retreat maneuvers. The PTRD's downside is the requirement to deploy the bipod, and the length of reload. Plus, all tankers quickly recognize the sound of a PTRD and will react immediatly.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Yeah, that PTRD is a pain when you are in a tank. You hear it fire and that awful ping on your hull, your tank turns yellow in the hud, engine starts smoking, and then finally you see that little bastage hiding in the bushes.
I have looked at the diagrams of critical hit areas, but it is hard to remeber those when the bullets are flying and that tank is barrelling down on you :-) Thats what makes it fun."Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl."

Yeah, it is difficult to remember. Just keep in mind that as a PT soldier you only need to know the German tanks! Oh, and I only mess with Panthers when I have a clear shot at the reart. Their hull is way to thick on the side and front.

Just keep in mind that the distances on tank sights and panzerfausts are in meters not feet.

Re: Infantry AT Weapons - Experience so far.
Heh, can anyone here accurately judge distances? I'll be damned if it isn't hard!

Re: Infantry AT Weapons - Experience so far.
There is a way to judge distances if you have the binoculars. Have you got the 'History and Tactics Guide'? This gives you a way of calculating distances between you and a tank. It seems a little tricky but I'm sure some people will learn how to do it very effectively.

Re: Infantry AT Weapons - Experience so far.
I'm really liking the Russian AT Rifle - took out a few tanks last night with it and a whole bunch of infantry.
Just got to remember to hit tracks or the rear engine compartment with it and a few shots will take down a tank.
