The Rifle Squad
This article is a good read, and relevant to the squad structure intended in Red Orchestra. Maybe this will help shed some light on tactics appropriate for this game.
In terms of infantry, each team (either German or Soviet) is meant to be a squad in Red Orchestra, with one Squad Leader. The idea of many folks at TG is to form multiple squads on one team, all under a "Commander." This is not the structure intended in Red Orchestra. As such, small-unit tactical theory involving one squad will apply much better than will larger platoon- or company-based theory.

Re: The Rifle Squad
good stuff!
"each team (either German or Soviet) is meant to be a squad in Red Orchestra, with one Squad Leader"
that's good to see plainly stated like that... seems a lot of the "spawn-squad" and "rank" discussions may have muddied the water a little before?

Re: The Rifle Squad
Not necessarily, it's still important for spawn squads to group up so your not traversing the battle ground by yourself. However, you are only a small group of soldiers in the team 'squad'. Is that clear as that muddy water you are talking about?
It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9/NIV

Re: The Rifle Squad
"Spawn team" or "spawn group" probably would have been a better choice of words.
Ranks could still apply later, if desired. We could just make Sergeant the highest rank and put him in charge of the overall squad. Tripwire even says in their manual that the Squad Leader (what we call a Commander) was typically an NCO.
