Load times?
Hey guys - when you join a server how long does it take for you? Seems it's taking a really long time for me... a couple minutes maybe?
Haven't really measured it, but I do know that when a round ends and a new one starts, I hear people on TS talking about what team they've joined before I'm even 1/2 way loaded.
I've only got 1GB of RAM... maybe that's it?

Re: Load times?
Yeah the load times are long. The guys with 2GB RAM load up faster.
My next upgrade is more RAM. Currently I only have 512MB.

Re: Load times?
I noticed the same thing Whiskey. They are discussing what team they are joining and I'm still looking at a loading screen. Also, there isn't a 'loading' type indicator like you see in BF2 is there (i.e. you just get that static screen until loading is completed) because I haven't noticed one.

Re: Load times?
I load RO significantly faster than BF2. I'm normally one of the first ones in the game. I have a 2.8 Intel with 2 GB of memory. The problem with BF2 is that I'd sit at the verifying client data twice as long as it took me to get to that point.

Re: Load times?
I'm running an AMD64 3500+, 2 gigs, and twin 6800's in SLI mode, and my load time is less than 30 seconds for the 3 beta maps.
I'd agree that the RAM is probably the best place to start upgrading.Tac-D

Re: Load times?
Im usually the last one to load the game, even with my own listening server up it takes forever to load, probably about the same amount as BF2
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Load times?
yeah I'm the same way - Loading data is quick, it's the verification that takes a long time... I think it's probably because my up-stream BW is 384k... so it takes a while to send the server all my junk for inspection.

Re: Load times?
I have roughly the same setup as Tac-D, except with a Radeon X850 Pro for video (that shouldn't have any impact on load times of course). I'm usually one of the first ones in, much like in BF2 - I'm sure the RAM is having the largest impact here. It's not nearly as slow as BF2 is to load, but I'm guessing that the speedup from 1GB to 2GB is similar.
I heartily recommend the upgrade for general use. Task switching is really fast, as you rarely if ever hit the page file. Since it's not having to unload lots of OS stuff to squeeze BF2 in, for example, BF2 exits almost instantly now - and it doesn't bog at all to Alt-Tab out either.BF2 POE2: NC_Tarheel
