Eye Candy

So after the game single player for a hour or so, I endeavored to do some tinkering with the graphics. Although the game does a reasonable job with the textures etc, I found that disabling the HDR bloom, and cranking up my video cards AA, and especially the AF, greatly improved the look of the game. Don't get me wrong the game looked fine, but turning up the AF sure brought out alot of textures I just was not seeing with the game settings. From the bushes, to the sandbags, everything just looks a whole lot better.

Re: Eye Candy

I recommend 4xAA and 8xAF for RO. I run the games in-game video settings on medium but with 4xAA and 8xAF the game looks great.

I am also running at 4x and 8x, but with all the in-game settings jacked up. The 4x and 8x makes a world of difference if you ask me. Everything just looks alot dirtier!

Re: Eye Candy

This isn't very helpful without a rundown of what systems you guys have

I don't want to mess with my settings and screw over my frames per second. Everything works fine how it is now, hehe.

If you are happy with the way it looks for you, I don't see why you are bothering to get involved in the thread. As for "messing" with your settings on your video card, you know as well as I that it takes all of 10 seconds, and it can be easily reversed. Personally whenever I get a new title, I try to tweak the settings to get the optimum balance between visual quality, and frame rates. As for the comments not being helpful...the exact setting is not really relevant, because we all have different setups. The point I was making is that one can get a much, much better looking experience by turning off HDR, and turning up you video cards filters if possible. I did not bother with system specs, because I did not want the thread to turn into a "Who has the biggest E-Penis thread."

Because you asked.

Re: Eye Candy

It would probably be most helpful if people listed their system specs and what settings they found to be the most pleasing combination of FPS and Visual Quality. This could be a useful thread for people to match their settings with what people list here based on their specs.

I will edit my tested settings in tonight:

Specs:
Athlon XP 2700+
1G 2700 DDR
Nvdia 6600 GT

Currently on standard settings. (edit forthcoming)

Agreed.

I have not noticed anything. In fact from what I have read in the RO forums is that disabling sharpens the look. What is HDR?? A picture is worth a thousand words.

You see the "Blooming effect around the light?"

Re: Eye Candy

As HDR applies to RO:

Without HDR:

With HDR:

It's really a matter of preference. I've found that finding enemies far off is near impossible with HDR on because of the blurriness. You do more pixel hunting with it enabled.

Re: Eye Candy

I haven't messed yet with anything more than resolution for my wide screen.
I expect I won't have an issue with my setup but I'll happily test out settings and look for performance hits.

I was having a blue screen crash last night whenever I tried to start the game.
Turned out to be a ZoneAlarm issue... had to uninstall ZA.

I will be looking into the graphics settings this evening as I'm off for a couple days after today.

Re: Eye Candy

I've found that 1280x900 4xAA 16xAF no HDR is a nice sweet spot for me. I'm getting around 60FPS on average (lows usually around 40FPS with heavy action).
