Read Me! How to fix VOIP, without disabling HW/EAX

Are you having trouble hearing other people's in-game voice chat clearly? Does the sound break up to a point where it's useless? Here's a fix. Some have found that disabling hardware audio and EAX by setting the system driver to "3D audio" fixes the issue, but this also hurts the overal sound quality of the game. Here's a solution that lets you keep hardware audio and EAX, while fixing VOIP:

    1. Download this file, and run it. I know the link's to Creative's website, but it will work on non-creative sound cards as well. (it works on my TB Catalina, for example.)http://developer.creative.com/articl...OpenALwEAX.exe

    2. Uncheck the System Driver box under audio properties.

You should be good to go! Let me know if this works for you. It worked for me.

I'm going to give this a try this evening, currently I have it set to 3D Audio.

I have VOIP working ok now, but I notice the sound quality is lower, and there is some crackling and popping during VOIP transmissions.

Thanks for the info on this! If it works for everyone without causing issues, I'll sticky this and remove the other thread about getting VOIP to work in the game.

For the folks who try this solution, please post your results in this thread. Thanks.

Wow, I'm glad I created a system restore point before I gave this a try. It totally screwed up RO for me. I installed it and then went into the audio menu and clicked on the "System driver" box to uncheck it. Well, it crashed my game and gave me a "General protection fault" error. I attempted to start up RO a few more times, but finally gave up and restored my computer.

It works fine now, though, and thats the important thing. I suppose it works for some people, but not me. Go ahead and try it out, but be sure to make a system restore point first.

Thanks for the feedback, Leo. Drat! I was hoping this would be a solid fix for the VOIP/EAX issue.

If anyone else tries this and ends up in the same predicament as Leonidas, please try the solution in this thread before doing a system restore. It may save you some time and effort.

Didn't work for me! I wish it would have...

It's the thought that counts though...

Sorry it doesn't seem to be working for everyone. Oh well. Here's to hoping the bug gets officially fixed.

It's been around for a while, and is actually a UT engine bug. I got the fix I posted from an RO dev on the ROmod forums: http://redorchestra.clanservers.com/...ead.php?t=1246

I had actually downloaded this from creative the first night the game was out because of some issues with the new creative drivers, but it didn't fix voip for me at all.

Did you also uncheck Enable System Driver? The game won't use the downloaded file unless this box is unchecked.
