Supposedly you can get pretty powerful. Add on a powerfist and you're in business!

I've made an unarmed character. You can get a Deathclaw gauntlet schematic fairly early in the game (well, I know that NOW, but not when I started). I tear bad guys apart.

Even without a gauntlet of some sort (brass knuckles, spiked knuckles, power fist) you're pretty well-done. Be sure to take all three Iron Fist perk levels: +15 damage! Also go for 80 in sneak and melee skill. At level 20 pick the Ninja perk. Provided you have 10 Luck, you'll be a crit-ing machine. I just swim right through groups of bad guys.

The only problem I have is if they're armed with a gun: they backpedal while firing. That's why Endurance contributes to Unarmed instead of strength. You take damage if you're unarmed.

Seriously... all manners of attacking are viable. Just depends on what playstyle you want. If you like the whole "raving psychopath berserker" way of fighting you're squared away.

TWO EXCEPTIONS, though: Super Mutant Behemoths and Deathclaws shouldn't be fought in melee or unarmed. Period. Takes too much aid supplies. Just invest a few points in Small Arms or Big Guns, just so you're not completely incompetent with either choice. You'll need a rifle or Fat Man every once in a while.

When all else fails when you're fighting unarmed, backpedal like a madman while dropping bottlecap mines.

    Re: FallOut 3 TALK

I thought it was alright, for awhile. Like it's cousin Oblivion, it got repetitive after awhile. Very unfortunate since I can't seem to get games for windows working on my computer so I can't install the new content.

I wasn't a HUGE fan of the original Fallout games, but I did like them. Fallout 3 lacked alot of the grit that made the first games feel so good and dark. In a way I think the technological limitations in those games were an asset in a way; sorta like how that old game 'redneck rampage' would have just been a crappy shooter if it was released today with beautiful graphics, but the old BUILD engine and muddy textures it used gives it a smarmy feeling that helps it stand out. Fallout 3 could never match the grittiness of the originals because, no matter how hard it tried, it was still going to be polished and beautiful.

    Re: FallOut 3 TALK

I have played quite a bit of FO3 now and I have to say I like it over all.
It is a lot like Oblivion. But has that oh-so-familure classic fallout feel to it.

I bought the GOTY editioin and I am glad I waited. The DLC really isnt that great. I like a lot of the items you get from doing them. I like point lookut and anchorage but I get this overwhelming feeling that the game is being treated like a FPS more than a RPG. Lets face it, the combat system is nothing like most FPSs unless you count point cursors at enemy and hold buttons till one of you dies. But that is not FO3s strong point.
FO3 excells in the story and subculture humor.
Dont get me wrong it is nice to not have to worry about action points so much, like in the other FO series. And I dont think the game froze like in FO1 and 2. (you know that pause when you enter combat and the combat gui opens up)

There is a TON of stuff to do in FO3 and it is a game that I will play again and again. More than likely after 5 years I will reinstall it and play it again and have just as much fun.
