Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
That would be fine if your argument was in some way a true comparison. I'm not sure what Age of Conan your playing, but in 80 level PvP its all about who has more classes that can one shot other classes.
Everyone sits in stealth and then its charge after charge until the team with the most numbers wins. The only good strategy I see used is have one class sit out and be bait while the rest of the group sits in stealth, once the bait is one shotted the group can proceed to one shot the attacker.
So any group that has a Tempest Of Set, a Guardian, an Assassin/Ranger will win unless horribly outnumbered.
Also WAR has a Order/Destruction cap per server.Last edited by Zoopy; 08-25-2008 at 02:32 AM.

Remember that the graphics, are Beta graphics... they won't have the turned up until release.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
True, for some reason they wanted to keep "real" graphics hidden from players... But game is smoother etc. when they release it. Dunno if OB is better looking.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
I certainly hope this is the case, but I've seen no indication it is. Perhaps someone here perusing the WAR forums can elaborate. Quite literally, right now much of the graphics of this game look like "placeholder" graphics - specifically particle effects like I've said. And many things happen that you can't hear either... like they're missing .wav files for them.
I do remember them revamping the graphics engine not too long ago though... so the overall graphical look I dont believe will change. But they'd do well to tweak some of the stuff.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Wow the graphics are not that great at all. Disappointing.
As a player of LOTRO and AoC, I find all my PVE and PVP content just fine. War will be good for the people who know the tabletop games and coming from Daoc still.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Not sure why people are ****ting all over the graphics when looking at the original Warhammer art from the table top game, this game is true to that stylization.
If it had ultra high realistic like Age of Conan it would probably look silly.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Either way, I know I found myself to enjoy myself GREATLY when I was playing, as well as my friends.
So there's no doubt I will be battling to silence the WAAAGH! come release day. Kind of wanted to be on Destruction side, but, considering we all had our fill playing Horde... we may as well be goodie-goodies this time."But way back where I come from, we never mean to bother. Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Agreed. I enjoyed my time on the preview (what little time i had, lots of things were popping that weekend..) A lot of the graphics look like they had scanned in a tabletop model and rendered it, especially the Orcs (Black Orc looked exactly like the Orc Boyz. I mean, really, look at these models..
Core Units, includes Savage Boyz, Goblins, Snotlings, etc.
Black Orcs, Squig Herders..

You want "realistic graphics" on units based on that? Or for the Chaos side of us..

There IS a few of these in the Chaos starting area, at least when i started my Magus.
The subject matter doesn't really lend itself to realistic, AoC type graphics.
Also, I wish they would have come up with 40k first so i can play an Ork Mekboy... My thats a fancy Custom Shoota. More dakka!

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Never played the table top but I do like a cool painted mini. Hopefully a board game will translate well to a video one. Table top games have had a poor record of making that leap.
Are there guns in WarHammer? That's the one thing that always bothered me with WOW is the fantasy setting is sort of medieval but you've got characters running around with muskets or using cannons. Really takes me out of the setting when I see that.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Yes the engineer has a rifle and can build a turret that shoots bullets.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
Not to mention the dwarves having access to (much better built than humans) cannons and siege cannons that look like WW1/WW2 railroad guns, flame cannons (and a flame turret for the engineer) and Chaos armies have those Hellcannons like the picture I put up there (basically, possesed, somewhat-living cannons of chaos that shoot magic and... bits), for siege PVP purposes. In fact, one of the very early quests (at least as far as dwarf engineers are concerned, i'm not sure about other classes) is basically "Find me some cannonballs, now load up this cannon and kill 15 of those invading orcs over there (all the while they're shooting at you with a rock lobber)" to teach you how to use the PVP siege engine controlls.

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
WoW (warcraft) is actually Warhammer in ancient times. Warhammer is actually Warhammer 40k in ancient times. They're all a part of the same expanding storyline. The Lore is ridiculously deep, which is reflected in the Compendium you flesh out in WAR.
One of the best things about WAR IMO is the Compendium. Matter of fact, it was my favorite element. It's kind of like an everexpanding codex of knowledge that opens up dependant on how far you get in the game with literally ANY kind of accomplishment you can think of (even opening your character sheet 100 times). There's a story behind every little thing.
So if you like to read. WAR is your game.
Note: WAR is a good game, dont get me wrong. (I actually liked the game a lot, despite its flaws) But, I'm not losing faith in AoC as being the next step in MMO development with regards to hardcore fantasy-style tactical combat. And technically, AoC (since it's had more time) is and will be a more polished product. WAR will NOT release finished, I guarantee you that.
Important (almost forgot):
If someone wishes to take up the TG mantle in WAR, I will donate an already paid for guild management site from Dkpsystem.com. Currently, dkpsystems is gearing up to support WAR fully, since WAR accepts mods similar to how WoW does. AoC does not allow this type of modding for the simple reason it's more of a skill based PvP system, so the site is near useless. We're also supposed to be moving to a dedicated site so we can custom built our raid manager, so I'll have the dkpsystems site doing nothing basically (when the new site is finished). The system is fully template moddable and easy to use (just point and clicks). And like I said, you'll be able to just plug in mods right into the site (for gear tracking, raid managment, pvp tracking, stat tracks, etc.) If you want to check it out: arstactika.dkpsystem.com If you guys use it I can easily change the subdomain to whatever you name the guild, like: tg.dkpsystem.com. In addition to this, I'm going to have the Tabula Rasa forum archived since that game is going nowhere... so there will be a "slot" for a Warhammer forum if there's enough TG support.
Ideally, if you DO build a TG guild... you'd start when the OB begins on Sept. 7th. Have the dkpsystem site up to start organizing PQs and RvR nites, etc. and solidify your release playerbase so it's easier to attract new guildies. I'll be on the OB to help out if someone wants to do it. Spulat? u game? Anyone? Bueller??

Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
I wondered over to the WAR forums to get a sense of the game and read the same bitching posts that players posted before the launch of AoC. One thing I've learned about MMO players is THIS game is always more stable and polished than THAT game. I'd almost hate to work on an MMO.
