Re: FallOut 3 TALK

It feels very much like previous Fallout games.

The dialogue choices are in the same style where you can say wacky things, be condescending, good or evil, and lie. There's nothing different there except adding in tons of voice to NPCs. It's similar to how Fallout 2 had major NPCs with voiceovers.

Weapons are in the same categories as before. You'll recognize many similarities with weapons. There's also the addition of a few more new weapons that you may have seen in trailers.

Random encounters are very different due to the change in game play style. You still get random encounters but it's based on how you walk through the world. It's not a dice roll to see if you get stopped during fast travel like in older Fallouts. There are still random things you can bump into during your exploration. I've been in the subway and there is a lot to explore that's unrelated to any quests.

It can be a slow game if you want to complete all the side quests. It's slow walking around in the beginning or to a new place. I'm heading into the more urban areas and it's hard finding a path so it's taking a long time. There are things to do and not just killing random enemies.

Character development seems slightly simpler than before. There aren't as many skills to put points into. You get perks every level now. There's still a lot to balance out though. You can't boost all your weapon skills and wield everything like a pro. Well, you might be able to but you'll lack skills in other important areas like repair, medicine, lock-picking, or sneaking. I'm carrying or storing a lot of crap but I should get rid of it because I haven't focused on big weapons.

As a fan of previous Fallout games, this is a great continuation of the franchise. It has the same feel and it's a new world to discover from a different perspective.

I'm wondering if there is a vehicle of some type you can acquire at some point. That would be very cool but i suspect there isn't going to be. I'd love a vertibird! or a motorcycle!

I've found a motorcycle and the supply place had a motorcycle handbrake and a fuel tank.......

yes those are used for a schematic though. I've run across motorcycles, cars, buses and trains but all of them are useless. You would think there would be some mad max stuff going on lol.

Re: FallOut 3 TALK

I've only made it outside the initial Vault, but so far I'm impressed by the game. I didn't play Fallout 1, only Fallout 2. My initial worry was the change away from overheard to 1st person view, but Bethesda seems to have pulled it off pretty well. And I've already noticed the kookiness of the Fallout series creeping back in, which is much appreciated.

So far I'm having my guy be "good", focusing a lot on my speech and science-like skills, with a small side foray into small arms. I'm liking it so far.

Re: FallOut 3 TALK

Best part about owning this on PS3? I've had exactly 1 crash.

Fun game all around. 15h+ in, still haven't touched 1/3rd of what's going on I suspect.

What I want to know is what is everybody's go-to choice for weapons?

Personally I lug the Combat Shotgun around most of the time. Good for those close encounters. When I need more range I switch off to the Chinese AR generally. Love the scoped magnum, but I never find enough ammo to keep me from burning through it too fast.

Least favorite weapon to run into: Missile launchers and plasma rifles. The former because playing on PS3 makes aiming outside of VATS a bit more difficult, and getting close to a ML is asking politely to have half your limbs removed. The plasma rifles I don't know why, but I have a hell of a time dealing with them. it seems like I should be able to dodge them better, but I'm always getting blasted. Maybe it's just because it's the default Enclave weapon and they're generally pretty good shots *shrugs*.

Thoughts, Opinions?

I saw a pristine motor cycle outside of the West*somtehting* train station E of Arufu and W of the Vampires. I couldn't do anything to it except flame it. It exploded spectacularly. I'm only about 10 hours into the game though, so who knows.

I haven't found a plasma rifle yet, but I have a TON of ammunition for them. I like my laser rifle, but it's so broken that the damage isn't that great. Having a repair skill of 70 is nice though, it keeps my guns working and my inventory light

Also, I'm not having any crashing problems, but I downloaded from STEAM. I gifted the game to my brother, and he seems to be getting a black screen crash. I haven't talked to him today, so I dont know if he's fixed it.

I'm having an easier time with ML's and plasma rifles. My first encounter with an ML was against a super mutant. It was a rough fight because I couldn't keep my distance and still hit the mutant. Now, it's a lot easier because I've leveled up a lot to the point where I can take more damage and use VATS from a distance.

The plasma rifle has been a great weapon to use now that I've picked it up. It's got great damage and accuracy. I've put the dart gun into rotation as well. It instantly cripples both legs so I can keep my distance. It's been a good combo beefing up energy and small guns skills. I don't have to get up close to fight and I don't waste too much ammo.

Yarr, here there be (minor) spoilers.

*****
***** Enclanve troops routinely carry them, but you can pick up a free on in the Citadel on a bench near the armory *****
*****

Generally you won't find many of them until you advance the main plot to a certain point.

okay, cool. I'm doing a lot of side quests, so I haven't progressed beyond Megaton in the main plot line.

Yeah, there's a lot of side quests to be had, that's for sure.

Re: FallOut 3 TALK

After you find the citadel for the first time you should find some enclave soldiers but you need Tesla soldiers to get the plasma weapons. I found a spot not far from the citadel where some tesla soldiers were deployed from a vertibird. Tesla armor is maybe the best?

Re: FallOut 3 TALK

It's up there. There is some unique armor that can be had from a certain location that's better, but it's not a monstrous amount.
