Morrowind Overhaul - Sound and Graphics
After learning that Morrowind 2011 is technically Illegal, I have been looking around for another mod compilation pack to show to the new TG'ers who decide to pick up this wonderful game. While browsing the official forums, I have discovered Morrowind Overhaul - Sound & Graphics, which essentially serves the same task of Morrowind 2011 except it went through the correct legal hurdles of gaining modder's individual support and approval. The MGSO team also included quite a few tutorials showing correct installation (as I have a pretty tough time explaining it without actually doing it all myself), and in their next release it will include an auto-installer which will preform everything for you. Unfortunately, from the looks of it you will need to download version 1.0, and each one of the three patches until they release 2.0. (Note: an account may need to be created on the MGSO homepage to view some links in their tutorial).

Re: Morrowind Overhaul - Sound and Graphics
I have recently found a nice addition to the MOSG mod that allows for a number of advanced shaders to be introduced, as well as allowing for advanced pre-rendered distant lands and a few other misc effects; the new Morrowind Graphics Extender XE (MGE XE). I have had a lot of experience with the previous MGE, however the shaders have always been tricky in my opinion to get to work with the other graphics mods. The MGE XE allows for more advanced shaders for heftier computers, however since the base game is Morrowind any modern computer should be able to run everything at max.
Here is the link, and the description:
http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/41102
It is AMAZING to believe that this game was released in 2002. Besides a few shader effects that are simply not possible to be replicated without rebuilding the entire game engine, I have a hard time telling the difference between my current set up of Morrowind and my current set up of Skyrim, which even includes extra skyrim graphics mods.Morrowind Graphics Extender XE; allows Morrowind to render distant views, scenery shadows, high quality shaders and other features.
Currently on v0.9.x, still some bugs left to find and eradicate.
Requirements
You must have Morrowind GOTY or Bloodmoon fully patched.
Requires a good performance SM3.0 or better graphics card, integrated graphics is unlikely to work.
New features since 0.8
Dynamic water from MGE 178+, water simulation adjusted to be more liquid
Full install package, doesn't require a previous MGE
HDR shader upgraded
HUD mods reload properly after alt-tab from fullscreen mode
Settings GUI improved
New features over standard MGE
All objects in Morrowind view distance receive shadows.
High quality selection of default shaders included.
Screenshot enable now works normally. Just use PrintScreen, no macro required.
Object pop-in at the screen edge no longer occurs. Distant land and grass culling is not delayed by a frame any more.
Grass moves and parts when the player is nearby; grass is lit better.
Shaders no longer affect the crosshair, nor spill over the screen during cell loading, nor screw with cutscenes.
Windowed mode snaps to the screen edge to act like fullscreen, allowing fast Alt-Tab.
New underwater surface effects, with total internal reflection.
Water shows up in the local map again, previous MGE versions did not allow it to render in the map.
Support for UI display quality fix in Morrowind Code Patch.
Scattering fog/haze and better skies and sunsets, thanks to phal.
Install Instructions
1. Update to DirectX 9.0c June 2010. (This won't conflict with DX10+.)
2. Install MGE XE to the Morrowind directory. If you've never used MGE before, run the Morrowind launcher as admin and set a resolution in the launcher options (to generate Morrowind's first time settings).
3. If you are using HUD mods made for standard MGE, you should deselect them from your load order.
4. Run the new MGEXEgui. Read the instructions page. If you are upgrading from MGE you should regenerate distant land with 150 minimum static size.
5. If you use Crossfire/SLI, turn off "Responsive menu caching" in the In-game tab, to avoid performance reductions as caching is SLI unfriendly.
Note that Morrowind view distance in-game is set to maximum when you first load a game. It is required at the moment. Also note that standard MGE shaders are incompatible with MGE XE, they must be updated to work.
Problems?
MGE XE is still under development. Please see my thread in bethsoft forums for support.

HUD mods
Old HUD mods need to be updated to work with MGE XE. There is an optional download which includes updates of the following mods:
Companion Health Bars
Vampiric Hunger UI
Close Inspection
Ownership Indicator
Third Person Crosshair
Time Display
You may also want to use Better Dialogue Font for sharper menu text.

On the train of thought about Skyrim, I will be writing a small guide detailing ways to increase the graphics and overall atmosphere of Skyrim that are apart from the large Texture packs, which most people know how to use anyways.

Re: Morrowind Overhaul - Sound and Graphics
Could you post player models after the installation of the mods. I've tried starting this three or four times but am not convinced that I have it installed correctly.

Re: Morrowind Overhaul - Sound and Graphics
Well you are in luck, because a few small tweaks plus a few hopefully easy to install shader mods made skyrim look amazing imo, and they help a lot because my poor little laptop doesn't have the juice to handle the official texture packs smoothly. Question however, do you A: Have the nexus mod manager installed, and B: Have a top notch computer that can handle very complex graphics mods?
Mhmm I love me some Morrowind, however at the moment I am actually having quite a bit of fun experimenting with the Creation Kit for Skyrim, as it has many tools that the past construction sets (for Morrowind and Oblivion) did not have. Hopefully I can finish up my little cottage mod and add that in as well.
Could you explain what you mean by player models? That seems a little over my head, however since I installed MGSO around 8 months ago, it has gone through some updates since then. As such, when I get the time I will uninstall the mod pack and reinstall it to see if anything has changed in the process of getting it up and running. I believe it now comes with an autoinstaller however so that should hopefully help out.

Re: Morrowind Overhaul - Sound and Graphics
Yup, NMM is installed and although I wouldn't call my PC top notch it is certainly on the higher end of the scale. Generally speaking I should be fine with installing a few of the more taxing mods so long as we don't go overboard. At which point it bogs down is yet to be seen, but I'm more than willing to find out!
