^^^^You should be able to run it at high or Ultra high. I have a rediculously OCed X1800XT and I am running it on Ultra High. With some tweaks that make the game look better. If anyone is interesting let me know and I will post them.

Basically it makes the engine draw more things from a distance. It doesn't seem to drop the FPS much for people. About 5-7 FPS less but for some that may be the difference between playable and unplayable.

EDIT: Also Nvidia boys there is a new driver that increases Nvidia preformance for Oblivion.

No, that's what I'm running and it looks pretty good, although I'm only just now out of the tutorial and that's after a few hours of play. Spent most of the time in the sewers. I will say I'm a bit dissapointed in how the far off landscapes look, but maybe I have an option turned off.

There are several vids over at gametrailers.com that are pretty good. probably most you have seen though.

For a good walkthrough check out gaming steves podcasts 40 and 41. you'll have to wade through to find the part about oblivion, but a good podcast to grab anyway although they are a bit long.

Its only $40 at CompUSA if you have one of those near you. I'm still waiting for them to get it in stock at mine, but I'm definately getting it.

You can always just go with Bloom and AA. Really, though, if your system can handle both HDR and AA you really don't have many problems

Edit: And I'm really sorry I can't give you guys more of a review yet. I've been busy working on a couple HL2 mods so I haven't gotten a chance to play much Oblivion.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Game is awesome on the 360, But it seems I can't even run in 1080i with my tv, I get terrible fps, going to get it for the pc today, And see how it differs, I'm a lv8 Nord- Hybrid class I created yesterday. Also unlocked 3 achievements as well. Although I'm having to run in 480p widescreen still looks pretty damn good, although sometimes the engine is a bit bright for me. Riding horses is pretty sweet, and the new fast travel system they put in this is amazing and really helps with having to walk to every major city, or pay for a stilt strider fee.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I have the minimum processor spec listed on the box and the game runs great.

    P4 2.0, GeForce 6800GT, 1Gb RDRAM.

I have the draw distance set medium and HDR Bloom turned off (I can't stand it). 2x AA and V-sync enabled. Ultra-High textures, etc. NPC shadows turned off. 1024x768. Runs at about 40-50 fps. and can get down to low 20's during heavy mackica combat

The game is simply awesome. It's populated only a bit more than Morrowind and I havn't played it enough to 'review' the Radiant AI. The dungeons are cool, the towns are quaint, the Imperial City is confusing, and quests are straight forward and fun (you actually feel like the person wants you to do this work for them). Good times.

I think it would be neat to import Morrowind into the gameworld using the construction set.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

picked it up yesterday...spent 1.5 hours getting my charcter to somewhat resemble myself. Pretty impressed with what I have seen maybe not so much on the landscapes but it might be because of my vcard: radeon pro 9800. Rest of the system p4 3.0 1 GB RAM. Not using AA because it pretty much dropped me to 1 fps during the fight scenes in the beginning

My favorite thing right now are the death animations. Watching badguys get blasted against a wall with arrows is pretty satisfying. I also like the new blocking

Funny thing happened. I went into the cabin of the pirate ship in the Imperial City and took a few of the books and tableware in there. When I left the cabin, I was attacked by the pirates. An Imperial guard came to my rescue. The pirates killed the guard, but I managed to off the pirates. I netted the guards gear and a few good items off the pirates. Fun times

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I notice in this game unlike morrowind if you broke into someones hosue you could steal anything and everytihng and no one would know unless they saw you taking it, in this you break in to someones house and steal anything, you go and leave and the damn guard in all up on up like white on rice.

Hmmm. Although this is not really my style of game...in fact I have never played one. I am very tempted to pick up this title. I am interested in the genre, books, movies etc. How would you say the game is for a first time RPGer? Also, now that many of you have more time in game, do you still approve of it? I have hear many good things about the game, but I have also heard alot of bad. For example, I heard that the fight style is somewhat unsatisfying. Opinions?

I've logged about 10 hours in game and I've barely scratched the surface. And I'm still loving it

I bought a house in game too....
