Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
If you haven't already, check out the Oblivion forums. There are some great mods there, such as the coloured map and an entirely new quest series with player houses called the Weather Wizard. If you're an archer, you can pick up a mod which prevents your arrows from disappearing from an enemy's corpse, as well as one which adds a one-stop-archery-shop in Imperial City.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
munchkin, if you get a chance (if you saved them) can you post the links to those mods? I've had horrible luck tracking down threads in the official forums because of the thousands that are being put in there hourly it seems.
Anyway, some of my favorites:
Slower Leveling - Mine set at 2x, goes up to 5x slower if you want. Makes sure I don't miss any level specific stuff.
Arrows that do more damage. I'm primarily an archer and the stock arrows are really gimp compared to what they should be.
Lighter arrows.
Texture packs - replaces the 1024x1024 textures with 2096x2096 or larger. This helps take care of the LOD issues on far away landscapes with no performace penalty.
New high resolution shadow pack.
Arena Mod - Loot the corpses in the arena.
Bunch of others I can't remember here at work.

I'm playing on a PC that barley meets the recommended requirements for everything but the video card where it is on the low end of the required specs. (AMD 3000+, 1gb RAM, 6600 GT)

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Crashing on your computer isn't related so much to your specs (my Radeon 9600 and Pentium 2.6GHz almost never crashes). It's more to do with your drivers and stuff.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Man I love this game! Too busy becoming Arch Mage of the Mage's guild to comment on it though.
Just thought I would help out anyone who is having trouble with crashing:
I have looked into this problem extensivly because I was suffering from it myself. Basically, if you have an Nvidia Card and especially an AMD processor, it seems like there is often a crashing problem if you have HDR enabled. A lot of other users on other forums have verified this. The solution? Switch to bloom (in the initial launch menu) and it should fix the problem. I was crashing every 15 minutes and switching to bloom fixed it totally. The only problem is that bloom rendering isn't nearly as beautiful as HDR. It really isn't the same experience.
So if you have your heart set on HDR (as you should), then try this before giving up (and waiting till a future patch): Degrag your Hard Drive(s) completely using a commercial grade defrag program (like Norton). Once I did that, I haven't had a single crash yet, even using HDR.
Hope this helps.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Yeah, stuff like defragging, updating drivers, BIOS, and firmware, and closing background processes can do wonders for games that aren't working for you.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Lol Munchin!
Well I ain't the one frolicking amongst the deer in the forest with my little bow and arrow! Muhahahha. Just kidding.
Actually, I think after learning of your exploits, I spent a little time deer hunting myself. Not quite as effective in raising my marksmanship as, say, sniping in a dungeon, but in some ways, far my emotionally satisfying.
Seriously though, I made a custom class and only one of my major skills are magic related (destruction). But after becoming the leader of the Thieves Guild (awesome quest/ending but I won't spoil it), I needed some other institution to take over. Hmm... wasn't there something like a reason I was freed from prison.. or something important I was supposed to be doing? Man.. I forget. Anyways... back to the Arcane University!!!

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
I've spent a ton of time out in the woods hunting - no pansy horse for me, I walk it everywhere slaughtering as I go.
I almost never use anything but my bow - love the archery.
I'm currently working on thieves guild and assassins guild quests - the assassin quests are the best in game hands down IMO.
The clue type quest for the assassins guild is classic, abosultely classic - maybe the best quest to every be put in any game.
You know a game is good when you forgo sleep to play, and when you do crawl in bed all you think about is what to do next.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
haha...I just started the main quest after reaching level 20 and the only reason I did was because I ended up at the priory while wandering the woods. I have to say that I enjoy this game quite a lot and really dont see what all the complaining is about on the official forums. So there are some flaws but they havent stopped me from enjoying myself.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Well after playing it a bit longer and fiddling with some stuff I'm definately enjoying this more. I found this post on the official forums:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/i...owtopic=324335
it has a lot of the best mods for it so far. Some of my favorite are the Kajiht night eye toggle (makes night eye something you can turn off and on), the wild life behavior (makes hunting a little more fun) and a couple of the ones that slow down the day/night cycle.
I'm really enjoying hunting at night as a Kajiht. I put on my night eye, switch to hand to hand and then go bounding over the hills running down deer...makes me feel like I'm in one of those National Geographic shows about big cats.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Emperor is DEAD?? NO WAY! Honestly people, you have to tell me these things.
Oh wait.. now I remeber... that's right. It happened right in front of me. It was soooo long ago. Oh well, tough luck for him. Hope somone finds his son.
Anyhow, I'll have to give the dark brotherhood a try Jaymind. I was contacted but so far have not met with them. But as soon as the fighter's guild quests run dry, I might have to look to them.
Does anyone know if closing the various gates around Cyrodil is something I should be doing on my own initiative or will I be sent to do them one by one as the main quest progresses? Kidding aside, I have made some decent progress in the main quest but so far only the original gate at Kavich has been dealt with.
Also, anyone here playing as a vampire? I find that usually it is more of a pain then not, but if you starve yourself for about 3-4 days to the point your vampire attribute is at a 100, you really do get some killers stats and abilities. Only problem is that you have to feed again before anyone will even talk to you because they know you are a vampire. I am still not sure if I like it, so I carry around a vial of vampire cure with me everyone I go.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Definitely give the Dark Brotherhood a shot. The quests are incredibly well-designed, and you get some really potent rewards and bonuses. Plus I look great in a black hood and cloak. Also, the Poisoned Apple item rocks - slip it into an NPC's inventory, and when they next go to eat.....BAM!
Vampirism is somethink I'll look into. The ability bonuses look great, and those lazy mage guilders/beggars should provide a food source.
If you like screwing around in the great outdoors, definitely check out the Hunting mod (I'll get you links, I promise!). It adds to creature behaviour, type, difficulty, adds the ability for critters to move in packs, and changes the items that they drop so that hunting is now a profitable business.

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
I just got the horse armor on xbox, pretty cool.
and the dark brotherhood quest still remains the best so far imo. They are pretty disturbing quest, especially towards the end, lachance anyone? uhh yeah gets really...sick.
I've closed 8 gates so far, plus 1 great gate, which is part of the mainquest of course. Um I would just wait til you get the quest that wants you to close each gate outside most cities, yes some cities have mutiple gates, imperial city has like 5 that I counted...ouch...but i've noticed nothing rewarding has come out of those,
Most daedra have only three peices of the daedric armor, I'm really looking for the helmet, if anyone knows where to find it let me know please.|TG-12th|Undead
