Can my guild build a big city or fortress to protect ourselves from other players?

You sure can, players may build their own buildings from a small house up to a massive castle or anywhere in between. You can even build your own boats to go out and pillage the high seas!

Can I craft items in Darkfall?

YES! You can craft virtually any item found in the game.

You can enjoy easy communication with your friends, even while outside the game. Darkfall’s Communication interface includes in-game message and trade boards, an IRC-style chat system, instant messaging, voice support, and even mobile phone SMS messaging.

I'm lookig forward to this game.

Just so you know, this game is vaporware and is the Duke Nukem Forever of MMORPGs. It's been in development for like 3-4 years now and nobody has actually played it.

Yeah I saw people complaining that the community was set up too early. Currently the game is undergoing internal testing and they are accepting beta tester application although beta testing hasn't yet started. Apparently the beta testing could last 6-8 months. This game is still a long way off.

I thought MMORPG's took a great number of years to complete already. I wouldn't write it off as vaporware just for taking this long to get to open beta.

Anyway, I've registered. Just waiting for the email. PM shall be sent.

EDIT: I can log on, but I still haven't gotten the email. I can't access the member list, and haven't figured out how to PM, so you'll have to wait to get a PM. I am registered as Karkianman.

Actually if you look in the darkfall area under the FAQ: Combat you'll see a link to a video of someone playing it.
