Re: Right/Left brain test -- cool illusion!

It was fun getting my kids to look at this. They were sure there was a "right" answer, so they kept changing their story on which way the dancer was going. When my wife gave her opinion on the direction, which was the opposite of what I saw, they both agreed with her.

The conclusion of the experiment was that the kids like mommy better. I'm ok with that.

I saw clockwise. So left. Then second glance...right.

Re: Right/Left brain test -- cool illusion!

Okay, I have had to revise what I have typed too many times and have stared at this thing way too long but I finally figured out how to consciously switch which direction I perceive her rotating. The key is the relationship between the black silhouette and the shadow since they are essentially rotating in opposite directions. If you focus on the shadow as it comes from the bottom right and connect it to the foot you will see the body rotate CCW. Let your eyes follow the shadow from right to left. When the shadow falls away from the view, maybe even a split second before, switch you focus towards the silhouetted foot and shift your eyes from left to right. The silhouette should now be moving CW. As her foot move towards the bottom right corner be ready to pick up the shadow and track the shadow from right to left keeping the silhouetted foot as more of a compliment.

When I time switching my focus perfectly I can get her to bounce between CW and CCW in half revolutions.
