Has anyone seen that brick of $100's?

Regardless of your position on the Iraq war it's difficult not to be outraged by what could be described as the largest bank robbery in history.

Quote:
Beginning soon after the invasion and continuing for more than a year, $12 billion in U.S. currency was airlifted to Baghdad, ostensibly as a stopgap measure to help run the Iraqi government and pay for basic services until a new Iraqi currency could be put into people's hands. In effect, the entire nation of Iraq needed walking-around money, and Washington mobilized to provide it.

What Washington did not do was mobilize to keep track of it.
Can someone tell me what Washington has mobilized to keep track of during the current administration's tenure? Let's see - Bin Laden, homeland security, Katrina/New Orleans, basic intelligence, foreign relations and diplomacy, two wars..

Heckuva job!

It's a pity, but it's been going on for several years now.

I don't think this points to "incompetence", unfortunately it points to extreme "competence". Competence in terms of achieving an objective, unfortunately it appears that their objective was to loot the Iraqi people.

"Gross criminal negligence" and "larceny" are better terms to describe what was done here.

There had to be an easier way to rip off $9B worth of Iraqi money....

Actually, I can't think of one.

Staying unaccountable means that the guys in power can make sure their intended targets receive the money. Dummy contractor agency A, here's your 30 million. Dummy contractor agency B, here's your 89 million, real agency C building dummy houses, here's your 40 million...
