But what the hell makes kids into rejects in the first place? They have food, school, shelter, and clothing. If they don't have those things, I certainly understand.

Sharingan: You will never see the disrespect because you are raised in a culture where what they are doing is "ok". It is not ok, and just because "times have changed" does not make manners, courtesy, or respect different. the very fact that the kids addressed a cop - regardless of his temperament or attitude - in a FAMILAR fashion, like he was just some other kid in 4th period English class, is inherently disrespectful. The tone with which they answered his questions, the fact they they seem to be purposefully pushing the guys buttons - all disrepect. I'm sorry, but if it was that obvious that I was pissing off a cop that bad, I would 1) shutup. 2) reevaluate my demeanor, tone, and language 3) comply with whatever he told me to do.

regardless of him being wrong - which he was - it was within the kids power to fix the situation. they had no clue how to because they are socially retarded, immature, disrespectful, spoiled brats.

Yh, I've kinda accepted that we're gonna disagree on this now, and I think I'll probably leave it at that. Partly because we're kind of going around in circles, and partly because I think we've reached a point in an argument where we're disputing facts themselves - in this case, what's acceptable, and what's not acceptable. Opinions are based upon facts, and if we're disputing the base facts that our opinions have been formed on, it turns into a:

"Yes it is!"
"No it isn't!

part of an argument, and that doesn't get anyone anywhere.

The fact is that while the kids behavior may have bee disrespectable if using standards set back in the time of 'children should be seen and not heard', but the officers actions were ILLEGAL using todays standards. Holding a bunch of 13 year olds to a higher level of responsibility than a grown adult in a position of actual responsibility is ridiculous.

Those kids could NOT have diffused the situation if they wanted to-- even if they had been completely respectful, I find it hard to believe that the officer would have corrected his demeanor or would have never attempted to lord power over them.

I do not have any problems with any law enforcement officers, or federal officers. I think its a noble job and a huge thanks is in order.

I only wish the suburban police officers where I live would really take the next step, especially when dealing with those drivers who will make a right turn if a pedestrian is crossing the street when it says walk, that really ticks me off, and i rarely seen a local cop in the street, instead of sitting in his car.

Other than that, I am grateful!

What they deserved was a citation...end of story. Though I agree the profession is noble, not everyone wearing the badge should be. Those kids may have deserved that kind of crap from their parents (obviously they're not getting it at home), but the job of that officer was to issue a citation and ensure those kids weren't skateboarding in that area. What followed was really quite unnecessary.

Now, we all seem to have some pretty strong words regarding the demeanor of these children, but everyone needs to remember that they are children. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to put blame on anything...blame the parents, the culture, and the society that has grown complacent to the kind of crap that our kids are exposed to these days. Kids don't just pull these mannerisms out of thin air. They observe and learn from the world around them. I wonder what they learned from that officer on that day?

after watching the video a second time, yes maybe he shouldn't have put the kid in a choke hold, but, I don't see any wrong with what happened, and I am willing to put money on it that he skateboarder deliberately skated by the cop just so he would get out of the smart-car police vehicle. And I wish the cop stepped on that RC car, that would have been classic.

The 14 year old kid should have been wearing a helmet, and I will guess that he won't ever ride where skate boarding is not allowed again.

Also word to the wise when a cop says stay down, stay down. I hope he is still on the force, of course an "art" student filmed this, is he going to turn it into a "indie" movie? Is it me or have people become wimps, honestly if parents punished there kids more stuff like this wouldn't happen. If I got out of line as a kid my mom would pull my ear so effing hard, and sometimes dig her nail in my earlobe, my brother would sit in the corner (he did this a bunch) and there is even a time when i did something wrong and was getting my ear pulled that i wanted to have my mouth washed out with soap rather than having my ear pulled. I learned my lesson's pretty quick, but nowadays if you even spank your kid on the butt or yell at them in public you can be arrested, pitiful.

Yep yep. But I say parents are parents, this guys job is not to teach kids how to behave by using excessive force and screaming like a madman. He seems to be picking on them and deliberately trying to make a scene out of the situation more than anything else.

yes the choke hold was excessive, other than that, i don't think he was excessive, obviously he had to teach the kid something because he didn't learn it before or care to learn.

I ran into skateboarders this weekend in the beach town where my brother was married. They were skating in town where a sign said no skateboarding, rollerblading or scooter from may 15 until September 15. The kids knew that, and still were doing it even after i said "hmmm i thought there was no skateboarding" they mumbled something like "what are you going to do call the effin cops on us, what can they do." Its a mentality like that, that gets them into trouble in the first place....then i laughed when one of the idiots tried to jump off a small set of stairs with no helment mind you and completely messed up, i was glad he didn't crack his head open, but its funny how things work themselves out.
