That is what we are trying to say about police officers and the Constitution. Politicians use the Constitution to write laws and officers enforce those laws that are written by those same politicians.

What does anything you said have to do with police following the constitution? I never said or even implied that the police make the laws. The constitution is the basis for all laws in this country. If someone doesnt understand the constitution how can they be expected to understand any law?

And why would the police arrest some one who was denied the right to a speedy trial? that doesnt even make sense

This seems like a good idea to me. A camera equipped on every police weapon.

Aside from any tactical disadvantage it may create (weight/balance) I don't see how a police force could object to such a device.

How do the police among us feel about this?

If they were secret videos they wouldn't have the same value. Like dash cams from police cruisers, if you request the video it should be made available. That doesn't necessarily mean they will be put up for display, but they should be accessible.

im 17 now but the big thing that makes me distrust my local police happened 2 yrs ago.

my dad works with computers his been working with computers for 25-30yrs (started out with electronics like tvs and worked up to A+ MCSE ect.)so i am naturally very good with computers. one of my neighbors a elderly couple purchased a 42in wide screen LCD that parts of it where in Chinese it was so new. they dont understand anything digital and wonder what ever happened to tubes? they call me and i get my tool kit and go down the street hook up their TV to there 600+ channel satellite system and the 7.1 surround. (i think they invested in the bible.) i start walking home im half way home and a crown vic cuts me off and some fat guy points his gun at me telling me to throw my toolcase off and another cop comes at the thing to inspect it. FIRST: they stop me violently and loudly and ASSUMED i was carrying a weapon in a Harbor Freight toolbag SECOND: they then ASSUMED i had stolen said tools from the elder couple whom they proceeded to question. the woman did not appreicate the officers visiting her Third: they went on to claim that i was playing hooky form school but my mom was home and we have documents proving i was a home school student.

I do respect law enforcement personal what you do is great. what i think happened is this guys just came from a patrol route that goes though the bad part of the neighborhood. theres a highway where i live and it pretty well cuts the neighborhood in half the nicer part and the dingy part. there enough crime in that area that a little police station outpost/tire change was built nearby. i feel they where just jumpy and wanted to arrest something.

One quick question; Is it true officers have a quota they're supposed to make with how many tickets/arrests they make or does that just matter on where they work and who the commanding officer in charge is?

True to an extent - if they dont do a certain amount it looks like they're doing nothing all day. If they do too many, they look like asshats in the department.

Why not fix the ignorance about what your Senator actually does all day? Why not fix the ignorance about why our gas prices are as high as they are? Why not fix the ignorance about anything that the general public has a skewed perception of? It's a losing battle unless the mainstream media picks it up, and there's nothing sexy about cops that want to go home at the end of the day in one piece.

My Senator doesn't want me to know what he does. Even "experts" seem clueless about why gas prices are high. I figure cops have an interest in showing the public what they do all day, and shouldn't have too much trouble knocking some videos of their own together, and linking them from the fora they frequent. Or are we to believe that what we see on Cops and other "reality" TV is in fact the entire life of a cop?

To be honest, I'm not to worried about cops that take a breather at a speed trap and such. People are people... jobs are tiring, and some are more tiring than others. The only thing that I really have a problem with is when police overstep the bounds of the law that they are trying to enforce at the expense of the citizens they are meant to serve...

The question above is kinda like a trap -- what are you expecting cops to say?

If they're sitting in a cruiser or on patrol, thats what they're doing. If no traffic is flying by, then they wait and relax. They can't be expected to be catching up on case law or the like while sitting idle. Idle time is part of the job -- and in a good area most police time will probably be idle time.

Now-- if we've got guys in cruisers dead asleep, yea thats a problem. If they're leafing through a maxim while the rest of the world goes by incident free -- go for it.
