well then i guess i am outnumbered, and yes its been a while since i read the first post.....

so i guess we should all hate the cops, hate them for protecting us, hate them for the unwarranted arrests criminals, murders, rapists, pedophiles, terrorist cells, robbers, drug dealers, how could they do such horrible things, i bet all those warrants were phony and or were handed out with forged signatures......

we should all be able to carry any amount of drugs in our cars that we wish, and if there are laws in regards to having guns in ones vehicle/carrying them concealed, than that's wrong and goes against our rights, while we are on this topic we need to hate the government and the laws put down by each individual state, and make it our duty as citizens of the country america that we fight the power! and make it so we can write our own legislative and judicial laws so no one can put their hands on us or make us put our hands up!!!!!!!

You are missing the point. We arent saying that all cops do bad things, we are only saying that the police who do not follow the law discredit the whole law enforcement community, and instead of admitting that their policies are allowing rogue police to violate people rights, they are dismissing these police as "bad apples". A bad apple is a fruit that has lost its taste and has become bruised and rotten. What these bad cops are is people who feel that their badge gives them free reign to trample on the rights of innocents and criminals alike (remember no matter who much you dont like it these criminals have the same rights as you and are innocent until proven guilty.)

Now that last comment may make you think that im defending criminals....well you are right. If the police conduct their activities in a criminal and unconstitutional manner they are doing more damage to the society then the criminal, because these police have been trusted with upholding the law and when they dont (even with good intentions) they are sending the message to the american people that they have no more respect for the law then the criminals.

The cops seem to get away with immoral and criminal behavior by saying "we risk our lives every day at our jobs". So? People in the military risk their lives in a much more real way and yet they dont get immunity from any illegal action they may take. We have to be willing to hold the police responsible for their actions and not let them dictate how our communities will be run. The police work for the people not the other way around.

The number one thing the police could do to make me like them a whole lot more would be to open investigations into any officer accused of questionable activity. Hold higher standards for entry into law enforcement. Deal with racists and bigots in the force. And to stop going out of their way to protect these rogue officers and to stop minimizing their crimes and activities by dismissing them as "bad apples" or any other meaningless term that removes responsibility from the police as a whole.

As citizens we need to be aware of our rights. We need to assert ourselves in order to make it harder for these rogue police to violate the rights of ourselves and others. This mean reading up on local and state laws. learning what really constitutes probable cause. Knowing when we are being illegally searched and to voice our dissent (but never fight with the police). And that we video tape police encounters whenever possible so that we know that an independent source of evidence can help deter these police. It is the responsibility of the police and citizens alike to make sure that everyone whether they are wearing a badge or not are held to the standards that our society demands of law abiding responsible citizens.
