its a state/federal law not to walk across a highway/divider unless there is an accident, in most cases you will see a sign upon entering a highway in the states that says "pedestrians are prohibited."

Jaywalking is good in certain cases especially where nitwits run across an open street right in front of a car giving the driver no time to stop, and then are hit, its the best when they cry foul, and when the judge then says "its your own fault, no damages are given to you."

I'll usually cross a fast road that I'm not really supposed to, but I'll wait for it to be clear, or grind to a halt because of a jam and then I'll cross/jump any divider. Running out into a road where cars are going at 60+mph without looking at the cars is just not clever.
