Re: Bush - most hated US president

I'm extrapolating 'hate' from the term used by Gallup, which was 'Strongly Disapprove.' In other words, if you don't like something, could you like it any less? Over half of the ~70% of respondents in this poll claiming that they disapproved of Bush as President claimed that they strongly disapproved. They could not like him any less. Though I would add that a few more slashes of his veto pen and people will like him even less. That would then shift the hate meter towards despise. Santa's got an interesting point, but I'd put money on Bush still holding the 'worst' title 20 years from now. |

They hate the president, hate Fox News and if you were to extrapolate hate based on their approval ratings of the Military, I would guess they Hate the military too. I do find it endearing that Democrats "love" candidates who won't be seen with the flag or who step on the flag. Boy this "extrapolating" is fun. I wonder how much the nation hates the largest Democratic think tank... err... Congress. Guessing more then the president. Lucky Shot |

Brings me back to this thread though - what's Bush doing (or done) to fulfill his 'great uniter' promise? Nothing. I think that he strongly disaproves of being a great uniter. |

Re: Bush - most hated US president
While I'll be the first to admit there is hate everywhere, I think it's odd so much hate/strong dislike is placed on Bush. I think in general people make a mistake of giving credit to the wrong person or entity when it comes to government (a shortfall of our government education
). Much of the dislike or even disapproval is a direct response to all the internet and TV comedic tirades or dramatic performances from the opposition to the Bush administration. The dislike or disapproval isn't from a self reflection of your daily life or realization that many of the problems or issues that you are faced with are not the responsibility of the president. Essentially much of the "information" outlets have created an oversimplified view of lives in the US. If you have a problem blame Bush and people on a whole seem to believe that. They have stopped taking responsibility for their own voting or non voting at local, state, and national levels. It was just a few years ago the congressional power switched sides and yet here we are at about the same place, except an even lower approval level. I think too much blame/praise is placed on the president and not enough on congress(the ones who actually write up all the crap good or bad). However, much of that stems from not realizing how slow government actually moves. Not often do any policies take immediate effect and even when they do there is still trickle down time.I just think that too much blame/credit is put on the Bush administration for any problems real or perceived. Much like too much praise/credit was given to the Clinton administration for the .com economic bubble(unless you do believe Al Gore invented the internet). There are more than just Presidents in our government and congress does more than just cheer lead or protest the president despite the news coverage. I guess though it's easier to blame the single man than trying to name all the representatives from your area. I have a tough time keeping up with who's mayor let a lone naming the entire US house of representatives.

To echo what Mosely said, Yes. However, there wouldn't be an easy of a target to be negative about. The fallout of our 2 party system is the ignorant masses of both parties are just blind adherents and view the opposite side as the enemy.

Re: Bush - most hated US president
I never saw the problem with Bush, although I am not American. He reminds me of Jean Chrétien (former Canadian Prime Minister) and we voted him in for 10 years even though everyone hated him and embarrassed us with his funny talking. Best quote ever from the man:

Re: Bush - most hated US president
That's the point. Outside of gas prices(which do affect everything) not much is a bad as Bush opponents would like everyone to believe. Much of the same complaints existed when he was reelected. Too much blame is put on president for things he doesn't even control, sometimes US citizens believe we are dictatorship.

English is Bush's first language and he doesn't have any neuropathy as far as I know.

Re: Bush - most hated US president
Why would they? Those who think it is bad today purely because of the cost would have thought it was bad because of the cost then too. Those who thought it was worth it despite the cost then will likely still think so today. The only difference is that now we're finally making measurable progress.
