However suggest exposing them to something like Islam or Buddism and they cry out in arms over religious freedom and not wanting to expose children to other religions. Buddist being bombarded with Christianity? A okay! Christian being shown buddism? OMG! Its the devil's work!
How 'bout the fact that Christmas is a federal holiday?

Re: How Much is Your Right to Vote Worth?

Hey Cing:

Some considered the U.S. government's recognition of Christmas as a federal holiday to be a violation of the separation of church and state. This was brought to trial several times, recently including in Lynch v. Donnelly (1984)[20] and Ganulin v. United States (1999).[23]

On December 6, 1999, the verdict for Ganulin v. United States (1999) declared that "the establishment of Christmas Day as a legal public holiday does not violate the Establishment Clause because it has a valid secular purpose." This decision was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court on December 19, 2000

The coments by Tarenth are true, but it is the people of those religions feeling that way. I was raised catholic and take time to try to understand different religions, not that I understand Catholosism all that much.

That fact to the matter is that many, if not all, of our leaders have been of the Christian belief in one form or another. That just seems to be the way it goes. The Muslim religion has come under heavy fire due to the recent happenings, again.......just the way people in general are.

FYI: Only incarcerated felons are stripped of their right to vote in most states. Once released from custody, they can continue to vote. And even incarcerated felons can vote in some states.

Before you argue with me, I speak from absolute experience. I am a convicted felon and I do vote.

I like this idea, but with modifications. I say we need to treat government offices llike jury duty, or Israeli military service: Everyone is required to serve a set duration. However, I don't believe everyone is up to the task of being president, so I say we give every one an NFL-style Wonderlic test and use that score to determine what office you can serve. (Laugh all you want, but this would have surely kept at least one Bush out the White House.)

Right, I was arguing against Tarenth's view of the First Amendment. Just because a chaplain for Congress is a christian doesn't mean that Congress has established an official religion. Likewise, just because we learn about christmas (a federal holiday) in grade school doesn't mean we all have to be christians.

Now the pledge of allegiance is a different story, IMO, but that's discussion for another thread.
