Google Street View

Check out google maps and the new street view feature, its pretty freakin' sweet. Haven't read much, but hearing some controversy over the fact that they haven't blurred people's faces/license plates.

Re: Google Street View

I never got the whole "blurring my license plate" thing. Your plate is in plain ol' public view all day every day, so what's the big deal if it's on the internet?

Re: Google Street View

Dunno, hadn't seen it whenever I've used Google maps until this past week-ish, and I guess there was an article in the news about it.

Re: Google Street View

Maybe I just remember seeing this silly video long ago: http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/

I guess it was just earlier this year...

Re: Google Street View

Yeah, thats probably why I hadn't seen it before.

Heh, drove down my street, saw my neighbor's new car, so they were here less than 4 months ago.

Also drove down Mass Ave and found my new apartment.

Re: Google Street View

Has anyone ever seen the truck that takes all these pictures? It must be going pretty slow because you can see people tailgating it in a lot of pictures, probably ticked off. I wonder if the truck has anything written on it, advertising for google or something.

Here is a "self-portrait" of the van. Look at the last photo in this news.com photo gallery (this should link to it directly though):

A room with a Google Street View.

Re: Google Street View

People are using this to locate porn shops and then post the faces of people going in. Funny yes, but a tool for persecution as well. What about planned parenthood, or AA meetings?
