Re: Extinction events

Re bees, we had a hive of them in the wall of a room we needed to rebuild. We had a local beekeeper come out and he rescued two queens. I got to see one as she hatched. I recall taking a photo, and will see if I can dig it up.

From what I understand, some kind of mite or disease had gotten imported and was getting carried from hive to hive, killing off the bees. Our hive was unusual in not carrying the vermin, and the guy who collected it was quite excited.

Edit: Just remembered where I put the photos!

They might have antibodies. You could be rich.

Ever wonder why earth is the only planet with a "24 hour" daylight cycle?
Seriously man. Do you get high before you make this stuff up?

No, I got a degree in astrological physics from wikipedia institute:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon - Orbit and relationship to Earth

Earth's rotation was indeed faster in its early history. It didn't have any effect until the water started to pool into oceans to have any effect on rotational speed (which is theorized to be roughly about 1-2 million years after the formation of the moon). It's the relationship of oceans and the moon that slow down the rotation and continue to do so until this very day.

This also brings in another possible "extinction event" The moon and it's decaying orbit. Although it's orbit is a stable decay and our climate adjusts to it slowly. Also note that since it's a small body it's orbit could also be influenced easier then the earth's. They say if the orbital decay is increased by more then double that the moon's effect on all climate could cause mass food shortages. They only way we know that this could happen is massive asteroids impacting in the direction of orbit. Remember that our moon is the orbital vacuum cleaner

Our sun was represented by the keychain, yes. Forgot that when I was retelling the analogy.
