Re: The misadventures of my dad.
what I want to know is why they want to 'hang out' for all to see. Besides the whole situational gay thing is disturbing.

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
Yeah my father has been in a lot of places and he has plenty of friends in other countries such as China and Mexico.
The Chinese are not as open as we are about sex and other things related. As a joke, my father had his colleague from Hawaii get a calender of "The Girls of Hawaii." Basically a calendar full of bikini clad, DROP-DEAD-GORGEOUS, women. He sent this to a friend in China for his birthday. Well according to a letter he sent, he opened the box, which had the cover picture with the best lady on the front, showing for all of his family to see during his birthday party. He said his heart fluttered. To them, thats basically having your father send you a stripper for your birthday, in front of all your family.

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
I wasn't going to say anything about my friend, Rich, because he's not a Dad (that he knows of), but he's had the biggest 'misadventure' of anyone I personally know.
He was a tower climber for a well known company.. and fell.. 180' feet and lived, undeniably reviewed as equipment failure.

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
-My pops was a yacht captain (like I am) and he once had a job in New England for a family charter. The father told his son that my dad was a "chocolate man," so the little boy ran over to my dad and bit him in the leg. (he'd never seen a black man before)
-Let's see.. my dad's had his toe bit off by an 80lb Wahoo. -Slipped off the dock, broke his nose on a piling, and knocked himself unconscious as he fell in the water. -Almost died numerous times to "phreakish" storms. The stories go on and on... as I think of more I'll post em up

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
Why does this seem to be one of those one up my dad bragging contests?

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
Wow.. this thread has spawned some very interesting stories.
Got me thinking what close-calls I've had. Pretty much two things came to mind.. One definitely doesn't count because I was just a kid and fell 25' out of a hammock of oak trees - the limbs broke my fall and I hit the ground just pretty scratched up. The other.. well - it was still before I was a dad but I was in college. I was at Photography School in Daytona Beach. We were learning how to properly charge and discharge a 3200 watt/second speedotron black-line power supply. Speedo's have a shaky history for electrical shorts - that’s why we were learning on one of those because if your hook it up at the wrong time.. well.. it can toast ya. With nobody touching it at all.. this power supply (freshly factory refurbed I might add) Arc'd with enough power in the discharge to completely knock 10 of us off our feet. Three students - including me - regained consciousness over 10' from where we were standing - I say 'regained consciousness' because other than the noise, I don't remember a thing for about 10 seconds, everyone still on their feet said I was rolling around and checking on everone else the instant it happened. I was completely deaf for 10 hours, the other two - 2 days. I knew it was a recent refurb because (probably the early engineer in me) I sought out the exploded pack and disassembled it to see what went wrong. I don't think I ever used another Speedotron over 1200 w/s pack ever. BUT.. now I work with multi-Kilowatt and megawatt back-up systems monthly and I have a keen appreciation for safety protocols, proper installation, and maintenance. There was a third instance where I was in a car accident that nearly divided my car in half from front to back.. but thats a whole other story.

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
Not only my father has had a close call but my mother has had too.
She was driving her car, about the size of an Accord. It was icy out side and a semi lost control with the load on it's back going sideways. My mom's car went Underneath the crate and had the entire top half of the car taken off. My mom survived because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt and that she was able to duck underneath the steering wheel.

My mom will not use the road in winter, if she is in the car when the road is used, she has a PTS reaction and starts praying or holding on to the car like crazy. She now is very scared to use it, even if it is muddy- safety first.

Re: The misadventures of my dad.
Sad to report, on 1/30/08... 3 of my classmates were in an accident. 1 flipped his car on the ice and the other crashed into a bank. They slid on black ice, yet oddly enough, no one was hurt. At least now, they have some misadventure to tell their kids.
