Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

The lack of desks for the left handed in school. The ones that could be found always seemed to be broken. Using a right handed desk always sucked, you had to write with your arm off the table.

Almost no one in japan is left handed, the left hand was used for "cleaning" themselves and said to be unclean.

If you're living well, both hands should be pretty nasty.

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

Thanks to people like Ned Flanders us lefty's need not fear, for simple items can be made for us!

I hate smearing my writing, so I slowly adjusted my hand to not hit the paper... Now I write on a 30 degree angle and it has effected my sax playing.

I remember when I was a scout I got to continue firing arrows/.22 because if there was no more lefty's shooting then what is the point of taking me off the range for the next group? Haha, love it.

I heard lefty's were killed because they thought of us to be the son of the devil? Any comments on that?

Edit: I just read the comic, so it is true, maybe not the killing part?

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

I'm curious, how many left handed people here have changed their mouse/keyboard set up? I'm a lefty but I kept my set up normal. Left handed people also have an advantage when using miter saws since we always know where lefty is, and hey were all evil that's a bonus.

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

My dad didn't know how to teach me to throw/catch/bat as a lefthander so he forced me to learn baseball righthanded.

I can play racquetball equally well with either hand. Probably because of the early baseball teachings by my dad.

My mouse/kb setup is the typical "mouse on the right" configuration.

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

I'm a native "righty". However, just before my senior year of high school I broke my right thumb. I played center for the football team and had to learn to snap the football left handed. It's a whole different experience. I never realized how big of a difference left handed can be in sports.

If people ran around the bases clockwise, lefties would make enough to buy islands. It makes a big difference in a zillion ways.

Aren't lefties already considered highly valuable in Baseball?

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

For batting and first base. I was usually a lead off hitter because I'm fast, made good contact, got hit all the time and walked because even in college most of the right-handed pitchers couldn't throw me a curve-ball so they'd have to work that much harder to hit the corners. I don't know if you've ever had a good curve ball thrown at you, but it starts out like it's going to hit you between the eyes, then dives over the plate, which is why people look so stupid when they flail at a curve ball that's fooled them (of course the pros are pros, so you mostly only see the pitchers get fooled, which is only fair). But if the pitcher is right-handed then to me it looks like a big fat slow ball that breaks right into my sweet spot. Even a pitcher's fast ball has a little break to it. Rightie fastballs tend to move left to right from the batter's perspective. This makes a ball that looks hittable move away from a right handed batter (wiff) but it makes the same pitch break into me. That might jam a leftie but you can usually foul a jam off. Of course in the majors the pitchers are very good but so are the batters. Generally speaking, it's better to bat left handed against a right-handed pitcher, as most pitchers are.

Also, batting left-handed you're that much closer to first base.

You don't have any (to my knowledge) left-handed catchers in the pros because if he has to throw to 2nd you don't want to have to take the time to step away from the batter so the throw doesn't hit him (and he's not under any obligation to make life easy for the catcher), who most of the time is a rightie. And you don't have any left-handed infielders because most of the time you're throwing to first base. Imagine if most of the time you were throwing to third, you'd always have to reverse your feet before each throw. That moment can make the difference between an out and a run. Make sense?

So all of this means that left handed players can pitch, play first base, our outfield. Outfielders had better be good hitters - either sluggers or good contact hitters, excellent fielders, cannons for arms, and scary fast. If the game were reversed and all the infielders and catchers were lefties...well it would be sweet.

This is why the left hand is almost universally considered inferior from a cultural stance. I'm not saying that left handed people suck, but historically the left hand was used for ass maintenance well before the luxury of TP. This meant that the left hand was a symbol of filth, and not fit for sophisticated or social use, only menial use. These customs are still held in some developing (and developed, apparently) countries today.
Disgusting, eh?
We still love you lefties anyway.

Re: Left Handed? Share your discrimination.

I'm left handed, but I adapted to just about everything else right handed, using a mouse, playing guitar, and other common stuff, baseball was the only other thing I did left handed.
